Itinerary Overview Today's itinerary was filled with cultural and iconic experiences in Helsinki. We set out early in the morning, starting from the magnificent Helsinki Cathedral, then heading to the Uspenski Cathedral with its distinctive Russian architecture. Subsequently, we took a ferry to Suomenlinna, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to explore this maritime fortress built by the Swedes as a defense against Russia.After lunch, we visited the famous Rock Church and the Silent Church, and finally experienced a traditional Finnish sauna, challenging our limits in a zero-degree seawater pool. In the evening, we headed to Helsinki Central Station, ready to board the VR Arctic Express (Santa Claus Express) and set off on an adventure to the Arctic Circle, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights! 2. Trip Preparation Transportation Getting around the city: mainly on foot, with trams or ferries used for some attractions. Suomenlinna transportation: Take the Suomenlinna Ferry, one-way €3.1, the boat ride takes about 15 minutes. (We recommend downloading the HSL App for convenient ticket purchase) To Rovaniemi: Take the VR Arctic Express (Santa Claus Express), the sleeper car journey takes about 12 hours, departing from Helsinki and arriving in Rovaniemi early the next morning. Booking website: VR official website Accommodation Tonight's accommodation is the VR Arctic Express sleeper cabin, we are divided into: Boys, lower deck without a private toilet cabin (NT$1,750 per person)

Space is limited, but it's still a special travel experience. Luggage Storage **Helsinki Central Station (Helsingin päärautatieasema)** has a luggage storage area. Large suitcase storage: can hold 2 28-inch suitcases, with an all-day fee of about NT$330.

III. Helsinki One-Day Tour Itinerary Helsinki Cathedral: Representative of Neoclassical Architecture Our first stop takes us to Helsinki's iconic landmark, the Helsinki Cathedral (Helsingin tuomiokirkko), a white church renowned for its neoclassical style. The cathedral's floor plan features a symmetrical Greek cross form with colonnades and triangular pediments on all four sides, showcasing elegance and solemnity. The interior decoration is relatively minimalist, without ornate carvings, offering a sense of simplicity and tranquility.

Uspenski Cathedral: An Orthodox Church Steeped in Russian Style Next we arrive at Uspenski Cathedral (Uspenskin katedraali), the largest Orthodox church in Northern Europe. Designed by a Russian architect, it's no wonder the building exudes such a strong Russian atmosphere. With its red brick facade and golden domes, the interior features exquisite religious murals and elaborate decorations. Compared to Helsinki Cathedral, this place feels much more exotic.

Suomenlinna: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, a Fortress Guarding the Baltic Sea We took the ferry to Suomenlinna, a fortress originally built by the Swedes, when it was called Viapori, mainly to defend against Russian invasion, and only later renamed Suomenlinna. The island still preserves many buildings and walls made of granite, and the scenery is truly spectacular. We wandered around here taking photos, soaking in the traces of history, and before we knew it, we had spent nearly 3 hours without realizing!

Old Market Hall: Salmon Soup & Local Food Experience After finishing our tour of Suomenlinna Fortress, we returned to the harbor and headed to the famous Old Market Hall (Vanha Kauppahalli). There are many local specialty foods here, among which the creamy salmon soup is the most renowned — rich and milky, with large, tender chunks of salmon. It's absolutely one of the must-try dishes when visiting Helsinki!

Rock Church (Temppeliaukio Church): A Music Hall Carved from Natural Rock The next stop is Helsinki's most distinctive church — the Rock Church (Temppeliaukion kirkko). This church was carved directly out of solid rock, with a glass dome above letting in natural light, while the outer walls remain rugged stone. Because of this, the acoustics inside are exceptional, and it's often used as a concert venue. Admission is €8, but we decided to just admire the architecture from the entrance.

The Kamppi Chapel: Minimalist Design, a Place of Quiet Reflection The last church we visited was the Kamppi Chapel (Kampin kappeli), a building presented in a simple oval wooden structure. Its interior has no excessive decoration, and it mainly offers people a tranquil place suited for quiet reflection and prayer.

Finland Sauna Experience: Traditional Sauna Ritual with Extreme Temperature Contrasts When you visit Finland, how can you not experience authentic Finnish sauna? We visited a public sauna house and began experiencing the ritual of "high-temperature sauna first, then low-temperature cooling." The traditional method is to jump directly from the sauna room into zero-degree seawater, then return to the sauna to sweat. I gathered my courage and tried it once, and the result? My whole body was tingling!

VR Arctic Express: Taking a Sleeper Train to Rovaniemi After finishing the sauna, we arrived at Helsinki Central Station, ready to board the VR Arctic Express (Santa Claus Express), heading to Rovaniemi in the Arctic Circle.

While waiting for the train, we were all drowsy from how comfortable the sauna had been. Finally, after 2 hours, we boarded this sleeper train bound for the polar region. My compartment with A-Mao had no bathroom, and the ladies' one was on the upper level, so climbing the stairs with luggage was indeed a bit inconvenient. Although this train is called the "Arctic Express," the carriages actually weren't luxurious, and the space wasn't very big either. But since we were so exhausted, we fell asleep right after sorting out our bunks, looking forward to officially entering the Arctic Circle tomorrow and hopefully seeing the aurora!
