Today we're setting off on a one-day exploration trip — walking through the city center, learning about polar culture, and experiencing snowy mountain-top views and the aurora, to discover the unique charm of this northern town. II. Trip Preparations 1. Transportation: The downtown attractions are all within walking distance. Crossing the bridge to the Arctic Cathedral: take the bus on the way there (one-way ticket 48 NOK per person), totaling 192 NOK for 4 people.It's more cost-effective to switch to a taxi for the return trip; you can book one via the official Tromsø Taxi website. Tromsø Pass (1-day pass): Must be purchased in person at the visitor center; includes the cable car and Arctic Cathedral admission, priced at 563 NOK. 2. Accommodation: Apartment in the heart of Tromsø (Airbnb) Location: About a 20-minute walk from the pier, but not very convenient if you have luggage. Room Conditions: Small and cramped, but fully furnished Price: 8,400 TWD per night, which is considered affordable for Tromsø Overall Rating: Average, not particularly recommended Three: A Day Trip to Tromsø Tromsø City Stroll & Cathedral Start your day at Tromsø Cathedral (Tromsø Cathedral), the world's northernmost Lutheran church, featuring a simple and distinctive wooden exterior. The area around the cathedral also has plenty of shops selling local hand-knitted sweaters and souvenirs.

Although heavy snow swirls today, taking a leisurely stroll along the harbor still allows one to sense the serene beauty of a small Arctic town.

Seafood Market Lunch Recommendation: Off-the-Charts Value Before noon, I headed to dragøy, a seafood market-cum-restaurant by the harbor, and ordered local specialties like a salmon & Arctic shrimp cold platter, mixed seafood hot pot, and Western Norway fish soup. Four dishes came to about NT$4,000, and considering Norwegian prices, this meal was extremely good value — packed with freshness and miles better than the cruise ship food!

Polar Museum | From Hunting Culture to the Spirit of Adventure In the afternoon, we visited the Polarmuseet in Tromsø. Admission is 120 NOK, and a Chinese-language audio guide booklet is available. The content is divided into two main sections: 🔹 First section: Introduces the hunting history of the ancient Norwegians within the Arctic Circle, displaying specimens of reindeer, Arctic foxes, seals, and polar bears, while also touching on modern Nordic policies on animal protection.

🔹 Rear exhibition area: A special feature on two great explorers: Roald Amundsen: The hero who was first to reach the South Pole, who went missing during an Arctic rescue mission. Fridtjof Nansen: Leader of the Fram expedition, who pioneered a new era of polar research.

The visit wasn't just about learning history — it truly let us feel the adventurous spirit and Viking soul deep in Norwegians' bones! In-depth Introduction>【Attraction In-depth Introduction】The Polar Museum｜Legendary Records of Norway's Polar Exploration Heroes Arctic Cathedral｜A Glacier-like Church Design After leaving the museum, we took a bus across the bridge to the Arctic Cathedral on the other side of the city. The cathedral's design is inspired by glacier imagery, and its triangular structure combined with stained glass is visually stunning. Entry costs 80 NOK, so we chose to take photos from outside as a keepsake instead.

Storsteinen Cable Car & Spectacular Snowy Views At three in the afternoon we took the cable car up to the Storsteinen viewing platform. The round-trip ticket costs as much as NT$1,600 per person, but the unforgettable view of the snow-white mountaintop, reached in just a 2-minute ride, made it all worthwhile!

Trekking through snow in sub-zero temperatures, exploring several viewpoints overlooking Tromsø's stunning panorama, where the pure white landscape interwines with the harbor—absolutely spectacular!

Originally planned to wait for the northern lights at the mountaintop, but due to thick cloud cover, decided to head down early. Supermarket shopping & lunch preparation Since we'd be traveling a long distance to Abisko, Sweden the next day, we needed to stock up in advance. Following recommendations from travel videos, we purchased: Tine brown cheese Canned fish and Mills fish roe sauce Salmon meat and fresh lettuce With Auntie doing the cooking, we prepared fish roe salad burgers and Nordic-style lunch boxes that were convenient to carry and reflected local flavors! Evening aurora hunting notes After dinner, my friend and I headed to a viewpoint recommended by the host where we could enjoy the city night view and search for the northern lights. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate—thick clouds almost completely covered the night sky, and we only caught a glimpse of green light on our way back.

Not satisfied after finishing our meal, we decided to give it one more shot and walked up to the lake area further up to wait for the aurora. Although there was almost zero light pollution there, thick clouds still blocked any chance of seeing the aurora, and in the end we had no choice but to give up in regret. Our two nights in Tromsø, with so little luck with the aurora, ended in disappointment.
