Today we're setting off on a one-day exploration tour — strolling through the city center, learning about polar culture, taking in snowy mountaintop views, and chasing the northern lights — to experience the unique charm of this small northern town. II. Trip Preparations 1. Transportation: The city center attractions are within walking distance. Crossing the bridge to the Arctic Cathedral: We'll take the bus on the way there (one-way ticket 48 NOK per person), totaling 192 NOK for 4 people.It's more cost-effective to take a taxi back — you can book via the official Tromsø Taxi website. Tromsø Pass (1-day pass): must be purchased in person at the tourist information center; includes the cable car and the Arctic Cathedral admission, priced at 563 NOK. 2. Accommodation: Apartment in the heart of Tromsø (Airbnb) Location: about a 20-minute walk from the pier, but not very convenient if you have luggage. Room condition: Small and cramped, but fully furnished. Price: NT$8,400 per night, which is cheap for Tromsø. Overall rating: Average, not particularly recommended. 3. A Day Trip in Tromsø Strolling Around Downtown Tromsø & the Cathedral Start your day at Tromsø Cathedral (Tromsø Domkirke). This is the northernmost Lutheran cathedral in the world, with a simple yet distinctive wooden exterior. Near the cathedral there are also quite a few shops selling local handmade sweaters and souvenirs.

Although heavy snow is falling today, strolling along the harbor still lets you feel the quiet, peaceful beauty of this Arctic town.

Seafood Market Lunch Recommendation: Amazing Value for Money Around noon we headed to dragøy, a seafood market and restaurant by the harbor, and ordered local specialties like salmon & Arctic shrimp cold platter, mixed seafood hotpot, and western-style fish soup. Four dishes came to about NT$4,000 — considering Norwegian prices, this meal was an incredible deal, packed with fresh flavor, and it completely beat the food on the cruise!

Polar Museum | From Hunting Culture to the Spirit of Adventure In the afternoon, we visited the Tromsø Polar Museum (Polarmuseet). Admission is 120 NOK, and a Chinese-language audio/text guide is available. The content is divided into two main sections: 🔹 First section: introduces the hunting history of the ancient Norwegians within the Arctic Circle, displaying specimens of reindeer, Arctic foxes, seals, and polar bears, while also touching on modern Nordic policies on animal protection.

🔹 Later Exhibition Area: Featuring two great explorers: Roald Amundsen: The first hero to reach the South Pole, who went missing during an Arctic rescue mission. Fridtjof Nansen: Leader of the Fram expedition, who pioneered a new era of polar research.

The visit wasn't just a history lesson—we truly felt the adventurous spirit and Viking soul deep in the bones of Norwegians! The church is designed with a glacier-like image, and its triangular structure and stained glass are visually stunning. Entry costs 80 NOK, so we chose to just take photos from the outside as a memento.

Storsteinen Cable Car & Spectacular Snowy Views At 3pm we took the cable car up to the Storsteinen viewing platform, and although the round-trip ticket costs as much as NT$1,600 per person, the unforgettable view of the snow-white mountaintop was just a 2-minute ride away!

Trekking through snow-covered ground in sub-zero temperatures, we explored several viewpoints overlooking the panorama of Tromsø, where the pure white world intertwines with the harbor — absolutely spectacular!

I had originally planned to wait for the northern lights at the summit, but the clouds were too thick, so I decided to head down the mountain early. Supermarket Shopping & Bento Prep Since we'd be making a long-distance move to Abisko, Sweden the next day, we needed to stock up on food in advance. Based on recommendations from travel videos, we bought: Tine brown cheese Canned herring, Mills caviar Salmon and lettuce Auntie Fatty took charge of the cooking and made caviar salad burgers and Nordic-style bento boxes — easy to carry and full of local flavor! A Little Note on Chasing the Northern Lights at Night During a break before dinner, my friend Cat and I followed our host's recommendation and headed to a viewpoint overlooking the city's night view to chase the northern lights. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate — the thick clouds almost completely blocked out the night sky, and we only caught a faint glimpse of green light on the way back.

Not willing to give up after our meal, we decided to try again — we walked up to the lake area further above and waited for the aurora. Although there was almost zero light pollution there, thick clouds still blocked out any chance of the aurora, and in the end we had no choice but to pack up with regret. Our two nights in Tromsø, with such a slim chance of aurora, ended in disappointment.
