The 500-year-old Túy Loan communal house: Đà Nẵng's oldest cultural relic

Translated from Vietnamese
Đình làng Việt Nam — kiến trúc mái ngói đỏ với rồng phượng, cột đá chữ Hán, sân gạch

Túy Loan Communal House is located in Hòa Phong commune, Hòa Vang district, 15 km west of downtown Đà Nẵng. It was built around 1470 (during the reign of King Lê Thánh Tông), making it the oldest still-intact communal house in Đà Nẵng. It was recognized as a National Historical Relic in 1999.

The architecture consists of: a main hall of 5 bays, yin-yang tiled roof, ironwood columns that are hundreds of years old, with meticulously carved dragons and phoenixes. The central altar worships the Village Guardian Deity, while the two sides worship the earlier virtuous ancestors who had merit in land reclamation. The communal house yard is spacious, with a spirit screen and a crescent-shaped pond.

The communal house is open every day. Free admission. Come for the Tuy Loan Communal House Festival (the 9th day of the first lunar month) — featuring traditional rituals, tuong (classical opera) performances, and wrestling matches. Combine your visit with a stop at the nearby Tuy Loan Market — a traditional rural market that has been operating for over 400 years, holding its market days according to the lunar calendar.
