Trip) Hanagae Beach

Translated from Korean

This is Haenagae Beach on Muui Island, which I visited a while ago. It's the place made famous by the old drama 'Stairway to Heaven.' Since it's only about an hour from the Seoul metropolitan area, it's a spot that a lot of people visit along with Eulwangni and Wangsan beaches. In the past you could only get there by taking a ferry from Yeongjongdo, but now there's a bridge, so you can go easily. Personally, I like this place even more than Eulwangni or Wangsan. There's also a zip line, and the coastal trail and hiking paths are well maintained, so it's great for walking too. There are bungalows, so when you rent one, you can rest comfortably, which makes it even better. Compared to Eulwangni and Wangsan on Yeongjongdo, I actually prefer this place, but the traffic congestion here is no joke. Since it's a countryside road, there's only a single lane, and although there is a public parking lot, so many people come looking for it that the parking lot is always crowded. The outside parking spots around the area are just crazy on holidays. If you're going on the weekend, you need to arrive early in the morning. I stayed overnight and visited on my way out early in the morning, and when I came out around 11 AM, the cars entering the beach were backed up all the way to the Muui-do bridge. If those cars were all heading into the beach, the traffic was so bad you'd wonder whether you could even get in within 2 to 3 hours. The weather was so nice that many tents were out, and it was as lively and bustling as a beach in midsummer.
