Không Gian Xưa – A Vietnamese meal inside a 5,000m² garden of old timber houses
1/6
Some places you go to for more than the food — you go to sit and look around. Không Gian Xưa on Điện Biên Phủ is one of them: step through the gate and you’re standing in a miniature Vietnamese village.
The restaurant occupies roughly 5,000m² at 402 Điện Biên Phủ, Thanh Khê, laid out as a compound of wooden houses rebuilt from salvaged old timber — the owner says some of it is close to 200 years old. Inside are antiques and household objects collected from across the country; outside, ornamental trees and bonsai, stone carvings, old farm tools, and a recreated village scene complete with banyan tree, ferry landing and market. One cycad in the garden is said to be 600 years old. The menu blends Vietnamese and Chinese cooking: BBQ beef, tiger prawns steamed with glass noodles, Sichuan-style spicy beef, gà tiến vua (an imperial-style chicken dish served with sticky rice), seafood hotpot and abalone. Plates arrive beautifully composed — more than one guest has said it feels like dining as an emperor.
