July and August are Obon holiday season, so many of you are probably already thinking about where to go. Vietnam is a tropical country, but please keep in mind that the climate varies by region! I'd say perhaps around 90% of Japanese travelers choose between northern Hanoi, central Da Nang, and southern Ho Chi Minh City, but the truth is each of these three regions has quite different climates. While it's not as dramatically different as Hokkaido and Okinawa in Japan, if you get the timing wrong, it can significantly impact how much you enjoy your trip. Weather in Hanoi in June, July, and August During this period, Hanoi is in the height of the rainy season.On top of that, both the temperature and humidity are high, so people often say, "my glasses fog up just from walking outside." It's true that the muggy days keep coming one after another, so it might not really feel like the tropical weather you'd expect from a southern climate. Still, there are plenty of hours when the rain lets up, and it doesn't rain every single day.While it's sunny, you can also join tours to the UNESCO World Heritage Ha Long Bay, and unlike the dry season, there's no fog, so the scenery might be more impressive during this period. Da Nang Weather in June, July, and August During this time, Da Nang is actually the dry season.While Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, and other popular Southeast Asian destinations are all in their rainy season, Da Nang remains in its dry season through late August due to the influence of westerly winds. Da Nang sightseeing mostly consists of outdoor activities such as sea bathing, scenic spots, the My Son ruins, and walks around Hoi An, so if you travel there during this time, you should be able to enjoy sightseeing with high satisfaction without worrying about rain! The weather in Ho Chi Minh City in June, July, and August Personally, I'd recommend Da Nang or Ho Chi Minh City as tourist destinations for this time of year. Ho Chi Minh City is also in the rainy season like Hanoi, but since the southern region has a tropical climate, the rain isn't really a concern. Even if it rains, it clears up in just a few tens of minutes, and after the rain passes, the temperature drops, making sightseeing easier.   You might not realize this, but the tropical climate you're probably imagining actually only exists in southern and south-central Vietnam. When it comes to tourist destinations, we're talking about places like Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, and Phu Quoc Island. If you're planning a trip to Vietnam in June, July, or August, personally I'd say Da Nang & Hoi An are the best choice. That's because Da Nang enters its rainy season from around September through February, and on top of that, October to December is typhoon season, so realistically, August is the last month this year that's really suitable for sightseeing (though to be a bit more generous, you could still sightsee in September too). Unlike Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, in Da Nang the fun factor drops by more than half when it rains.That's why if you're going to Da Nang, the dry season is the best! #2 Ho Chi Minh City: If it rains, there's a great way to enjoy the rain!

2nd place is Ho Chi Minh City. Aside from Da Nang, the other destinations fall in the rainy season, but among them, Ho Chi Minh City lets you think of ways to spend your time like a local even on rainy days, in true Vietnamese style. Right now, Ho Chi Minh City has far more stylish cafés, luxury spas, and indoor nightspots compared to before the pandemic. Since rain is already expected during the rainy season, another nice point is that you can easily plan for rainy days even while you're still in Japan. 3rd place, Phu Quoc Island: if possible, we recommend touring two cities.

3rd place is Phu Quoc Island. For some reason, over the past few years, more and more YouTubers and Instagrammers have been introducing Phu Quoc Island, haven't they? Phu Quoc has the same climate as Ho Chi Minh City, so June to August falls in the rainy season, but even so, the climate stays mild throughout the year, and since the temperature itself stays high all day long, you can still go swimming in the sea after the rain clears up.   However, to be honest, Phu Quoc Island isn't quite at the level of a tourist destination that YouTubers commonly recommend, and if you stay for more than 3 days, you'll likely get bored thinking there's nothing to do. For this reason, if you're planning to visit Phu Quoc Island, it's best to plan a two-city tour with 2 days on Phu Quoc Island and 2 days in Ho Chi Minh City.   Since Phu Quoc Island doesn't have direct flights from Japan, you'll need to transfer to a domestic flight via Ho Chi Minh City, which also makes it easy to plan a two-city tour. Summary: Vietnam is hot right now with the yen at historic lows! With the historically weak yen and rising fuel costs due to the US-Iran situation, prices are climbing across the board. Even Bangkok, Thailand, which has maintained unwavering popularity until now, is beginning to show signs of decline.Bangkok is no longer a cheap country," and "These days Thai people visit Japan" — you often hear such sentiments nowadays. Still, Vietnam is a country where you can still experience affordable prices. Of course, it depends on how you spend your time, but if you're looking for a place where you can enjoy luxury without breaking the bank, why not consider Vietnam for your next overseas trip?
