Origin In 2024, I saw the Northern Lights for the first time with my own eyes in Iceland, and the sight of that green light dancing across the sky left a deep impression in my mind.2024–2025 is predicted to be a peak year for auroral activity, and greedy me decided to chase the aurora one more time—this time crossing four Nordic countries and three Arctic Circles for an aurora adventure! For this trip, we spent over six months preparing, researching transportation and connections between cities. Starting from Copenhagen, we took planes, trains, buses, and cruise ships, crossing Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden along the way—experiencing avalanche road closures, train cancellations, aurora over a cruise ship, and aurora high in the sky. Looking back, this wasn't just a trip, but an adventure that truly belonged to us. II. Route Map This trip has two groups of travelers. One group departs from Vietnam and flies directly to Copenhagen, while the other group departs from Taiwan and connects through the Netherlands. Travel Reflections and Summary Thoughts This Nordic four-country self-guided tour was an extremely challenging journey that required extensive preparation to find ways to cross the Arctic Circle regions of three countries. We learned about their cultures in the capitals of Denmark, Finland, and Sweden, and enjoyed the Northern Lights in the Arctic Circle regions of Finland, Norway, and Sweden. Facing train cancellations, road closures, emergency flight changes, and unexpected discoveries (aurora borealis on the plane!), we learned to adapt on the fly and work as a team, ultimately successfully completing this journey filled with uncertainty yet indescribably beautiful. If I were to replan, I would allow an extra day for the Tromsø→Abisko segment to create more buffer space and also visit Narvik along the way. VII. Reminders and Precautions 📌 Clothing and Equipment Recommended layering approach: thermal wear + cotton mid-layer + windproof and waterproof down jacket Hiking boots and non-slip snow boots are your best choice—cloth shoes will get soaked through. Indoor heating is strong, so we recommend bringing easy-to-remove outer layers. 📌 Keeping Warm & Preventing Frostbite Keeping your feet warm is extremely important—wear wool socks + warm insoles (or foot warmers). Anti-freeze hand cream, lotion, and lip balm are essentials. If you're outdoors for extended periods, pay special attention to your nose tip and ears to prevent frostbite. Your phone can freeze and malfunction—you can stick warmers on the back of your phone. 📌 Other Helpful Reminders Some supermarkets in certain areas close early in the evening. Check supermarket hours before your trip, and prepare ingredients in advance if needed. Attractions such as city halls and shipwreck museums all require tickets purchased online or at the site. It's recommended to plan your itinerary in advance. Old towns and snowy areas are not suitable for dragging luggage. It's recommended to choose accommodations that are easy to access and navigate.
