[Da Nang Travel Diary] Day 2: We stayed at the 4-star Victoria Hoi An!

If you find an article that interests you, please follow us first ♪ Continuing from last time, this is our Da Nang trip♪ On day 2, we moved to the neighboring town of Hoi An.Hoi An is well known for its UNESCO World Heritage-listed old town, but did you know there's actually a beach just 10 to 15 minutes away by taxi, lined with a resort-like townscape? This time, we stayed at one of the long-established four-star hotels in that area, the "Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort & Spa." This Victoria Hotel is part of a hotel chain located not only in Hoi An but also in popular tourist destinations across Vietnam that are favored by Vietnamese travelers. It's rare to find a hotel chain that is itself Vietnamese-owned, and its design recreates traditional Vietnamese architecture, giving it an outstanding Southeast Asian atmosphere. Of course, it's a hotel we can highly recommend to Japanese travelers as well! "Victoria Hoi An" is a spectacular hotel right along the beach!

This is the reason I chose Vitoria Hoi An. Here is the view you find as you walk past the reception. There's an outdoor pool lined with palm trees, and just beyond it lies Cua Dai Beach, close enough to reach on foot. Would you call it an infinity pool? It's truly the tropics, isn't it ♪   There were a few other hotels that looked nice, but it was surprisingly hard to find one with this kind of tropical scenery (Da Nang resort hotels cost more than double, too). This is the room we stayed in this time. A common thing with local Vietnamese hotels is that there's "no bathtub." Of course, the shower is fine in terms of water pressure and temperature~. But since we live in Vietnam and only shower at home too, when we're at a hotel we kind of want to soak in a bathtub... Still, for Japanese travelers who normally take showers day to day anyway, this shouldn't be a problem here either ( ｀ー´)ノ By the way, it even comes with a balcony? Or maybe a terrace?!

Unfortunately, the view from the balcony is a river view. An ocean view would cost about 20% more. By the way, it seems there's also an optional plan where you can take a boat from the river right in front of the hotel to Hoi An Ancient Town! Also, you can rent one of the hotel's free bicycles to get to the Ancient Town, or take the shuttle bus that runs at set times. Since the timing didn't work out for us and we have a small child, we quietly went by taxi instead. Now let me briefly introduce the facilities at Victoria Hoi An.

Here are the facilities I was able to confirm as I toured around the hotel. Billiards & table tennis Library (you can play chess) Bar (has a nice good-old-days kind of atmosphere) Kids club Tennis court We didn't end up using any of these facilities, but for people who plan to keep old town sightseeing to a minimum and spend most of their time at the hotel, these seem like they would be quite worth using. The breakfast buffet at Victoria Hoi An was excellent, no complaints at all!

The breakfast buffet is held in the restaurant venue. Vietnamese and Western dishes are arranged in a nice balance, and it left nothing to be desired in terms of both quality and variety. There were also several kinds of my favorite bread, cheese, and salami & ham, and for Vietnamese food, they even made noodle dishes fresh on the spot at the egg station.

Also, Chinese food is commonly eaten in the old quarters of Vietnam, so there were also several dim sum dishes like shumai and steamed buns. The ingredients are different from what you'd eat in Japan, so I really want you to try these too. Summary & preview of next time... Who I can recommend Victoria Hoi An to   At the "Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort & Spa," you can enjoy the kind of experience only a true resort hotel can offer. That's why you'll want to spend as much time as possible at the hotel. This place isn't ideal for people who plan to walk around the Old Town from morning until night and only return to the hotel at night.That said, if you can stay for 2–3 nights, I think Victoria Hoi An is a really great choice — spend the first day sightseeing, and the second day just enjoying hotel life and the beach!
