Visitors can take small boats and navigate through winding waterways, with mountains stretching along both banks and lush green rice paddies reflected in the water, creating a poetic landscape painting. Besides the natural scenery, the Ninh Binh area also preserves rich historical relics and religious culture, including the ancient capital of Hoa Lu and the Bich Dong Pagoda, making it a representative destination in northern Vietnam that beautifully combines cultural and natural heritage.

Best Time to Visit Ninh Binh has a tropical monsoon climate, and the best time to visit is from March to May and September to November each year. May: This is the season when the rice fields turn golden, with waves of rice shimmering in the sunlight across the fields — a paradise for photography lovers. September–October: The temperature is pleasant, perfect for hiking and boat tours. June–August: This is the rainy season. Although there is heavy rain, it creates a poetic scenery of mist and clouds swirling around. Overview of Classic Attractions in Tam Coc–Ninh Binh 1. Trang An Boat Tour This is the filming location for the movie "Kong: Skull Island", and it is also a World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site. The boat ride takes about 1–1.5 hours, passing through limestone caves, waterways, and hidden temples. The boatman rows mainly with his feet, and along the way you can see Sang Cave, Toi Cave, Ba Giot Cave, and several other caves and temples.

2. Tam Coc Boat Ride Known as "Ha Long Bay on Land," the river winds its way through rice paddies, making it a fantastic spot to photograph rippling rice fields and mountain reflections. The boat trip takes about 1.5 hours, passing through the main caves: Hang Ca, Hang Hai, and Hang Ba. It's recommended to visit in the afternoon, when the light is soft and the views are at their best.

4. Hoa Lu Ancient Capital This is the ancient capital site of Vietnam's Dinh and Le dynasties, built in the 10th century. Here you can visit the Dinh King Temple and the Le King Temple to learn about the history and architectural style of Vietnam's early dynasties.

Thung Nham Bird Valley Known as "Ninh Binh's ecological sanctuary," it attracts thousands of egrets and herons that come to roost here every autumn. You can take a short boat ride into the bird sanctuary, and also visit Hang But (Buddha Cave). Afternoon is the best time to watch the flocks of birds returning to roost.

If you have more time, you can split the itinerary into two days and one night, staying in Ninh Binh to enjoy a leisurely time experiencing the mountain town's night scenery and local cuisine.
