In this 2025 update, I've specially added my on-the-ground experience at Vietnam's National Day ceremony and military parade, as well as my thoughts on the newest internet-famous spot, "Flower Street," so everyone can see a more complete and vivid Hanoi. 🌇 The Charm of Hanoi A Thousand-Year-Old Capital: Where History and Culture Intertwine French colonial charm × traditional Vietnamese architecture in perfect harmony A paradise of coffee culture and street food — you must try Vietnamese pho and egg coffee! The transport hub of North Vietnam: extending your trip to Ha Long Bay, Tam Coc (Halong Bay on Land), and Sapa is super convenient 📍 Must-Visit Attractions in Hanoi 1️⃣ Hoàn Kiếm Lake A landmark lake located in the heart of downtown Hanoi. Legend has it that Lê Lợi, the founding emperor of the Later Lê Dynasty of Vietnam, received a magic sword at this lake, and later returned it to the Golden Turtle God — hence the name "Lake of the Returned Sword.In the middle of the lake stand the famous Turtle Tower and Ngoc Son Temple (which houses a sacred turtle specimen). This is the liveliest area in Hanoi, where you can see many Vietnamese people taking photos in their Ao Dai. Around the lake there are also well-known old ice cream shops and cafés, making it a wonderful spot for a leisurely stroll.

2️⃣ St. Joseph's Cathedral Built in 1888 in French Gothic style, it is one of Hanoi's most iconic religious buildings. It's right next to Hoan Kiem Lake, so it's a good idea to visit them together. There are many local snack stalls across from the cathedral — you can try Vietnamese sticky rice (xôi) and Nước Sấu (soaked ferronia fruit water), a flavor that locals enjoy every day.

3️⃣ West Lake & Tran Quoc Pagoda Hanoi's oldest Buddhist temple, located on a small island in West Lake, surrounded by shimmering water and hills. It's best to visit in the early morning or at dusk, when the scenery is especially serene and enchanting.

4️⃣ Ba Dinh Square, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, and the One Pillar Pagoda Ba Dinh Square is an important political symbol of Vietnam, and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is the final resting place of Vietnam's founding father. Mausoleum opening hours: Tuesday–Thursday and Saturday–Sunday, 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM (entry stops after 10:15 AM). It is often closed for maintenance in winter, so it's recommended to check the opening days in advance. Next to it, the **One Pillar Pagoda (Lotus Platform)** is Hanoi's most iconic ancient temple, built during the Ly Dynasty. The temple stands on a single stone pillar, giving it a truly unique shape.

5️⃣ 火車街（Train Street） 一條鐵道穿過居民區的巷弄，火車經過時與建築距離極近，成為全球知名的「網美拍照點」。 可在鐵道旁咖啡廳坐下，等火車呼嘯而過，體驗河內特有的日常驚喜。

6️⃣ Water Puppet Show A traditional Vietnamese art form with a thousand years of history, where performers manipulate puppets on water using bamboo poles and ropes. Although the performance is in Vietnamese, you can rent an audio guide to help understand the plot. 7️⃣ 36 Old Streets (Old Quarter) Located at the core of Hanoi's Old Quarter, the streets were named after trades in ancient times, such as Silk Street and Silver Street. Today, most of these streets have transformed into tourist areas, yet they still retain many street food stalls and handicraft shops, making them the best place to experience Hanoi's street culture.

8️⃣ Flower Street (Phan Đình Phùng) 🌸 The latest trendy photo spot! The whole street is lined with colorful flower stalls and photo sets, perfect for a stroll, taking Instagram-worthy photos, and experiencing the local atmosphere.

9️⃣ Temple of Literature (Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám) One of Hanoi's most iconic historical sites, built in 1070, it was Vietnam's first national academy and a place for worshipping Confucius. The complex is divided into five courtyards, with architecture that is antique and elegant, and an atmosphere that is solemn and tranquil, making it the best place to understand Vietnamese Confucian culture. 🇻🇳 Vietnam National Day Ceremony and Military Parade (September 2025 Experience) This time was especially unforgettable. The streets of Hanoi were completely blocked off and decked out with flags, and the square was already packed with crowds by 3 a.m. We held out until 6:30 in the morning, watching the parade's opening on the big screen, followed by the grand military march and flyover performance. The atmosphere on site was electrifying and solemn, and it gave me an even deeper appreciation for the Vietnamese people's love and pride for their country.

Specifically: Spring (March to May): Hanoi's spring weather is pleasant, with temperatures ranging from about 15°C to 25°C, and the air is relatively dry. This is one of the best times of year to visit. Summer (June to August): Summer is very hot and humid, with temperatures usually between 25°C and 35°C, occasionally reaching over 38°C. Moreover, this is the rainy season, with heavy rainfall and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. If you don't like hot weather or humid environments, we recommend avoiding travel during this period. Autumn (September to November): In autumn, Hanoi's climate is cool and comfortable, with temperatures around 20°C to 30°C, dry air, and less rainfall.This period is also the most popular season among tourists, as the weather is pleasant and perfect for outdoor activities and exploring Hanoi's major attractions. In the city, you can use the Grab App (Vietnam's version of Uber), which offers fair prices and lets you track your route. 🏨 Accommodation Recommendations Top pick for lodging: around Hoan Kiem Lake (Old Quarter) This area has convenient transportation and great amenities. 💰 Average room rates: 3–4 star hotels cost about NT$1000–1500 per night.
