This is the liveliest area in Hanoi, where you can often see many Vietnamese people wearing áo dài and taking photos. Around the lake there are also well-known old ice cream shops and cafés, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll.

2️⃣ St. Joseph's Cathedral A French Gothic church built in 1888, it is one of Hanoi's most iconic religious buildings. Located right next to Hoan Kiem Lake, we recommend visiting them together. Across from the cathedral, there are many local food stalls where you can try Vietnamese sticky rice and sugar apple water (Nước Sấu), beloved flavors in the daily lives of locals.

3️⃣ West Lake & Trấn Quốc Pagoda Hanoi's oldest Buddhist temple, located on a small island in West Lake, surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the lake and mountains. It is recommended to visit in the early morning or at dusk, when the scenery is especially peaceful and enchanting.

4️⃣ Ba Dinh Square, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, and the One Pillar Pagoda Ba Dinh Square is an important political symbol of Vietnam, while the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is the final resting place of the Father of the Nation. Mausoleum opening hours: Tuesday to Thursday, Saturday to Sunday, 9:00 to 11:00 AM (entry stops after 10:15). It is often closed for maintenance in winter, so it's recommended to check the opening days in advance. Next to it, the **One Pillar Pagoda (Lotus Platform)** is Hanoi's most iconic ancient temple, built during the Ly Dynasty. The temple stands on a single stone pillar, giving it a unique shape.

5️⃣ Train Street A railway track runs through a narrow residential alley, where the trains pass so close to the buildings that it has become a world-famous "Instagram photo spot." You can sit down at a café next to the tracks and wait for the train to roar past, experiencing one of Hanoi's uniquely everyday surprises.

6️⃣ Water Puppet Show A traditional Vietnamese art form with a thousand-year history, performers use bamboo poles and strings to manipulate puppets on the water. Although the performance is in Vietnamese, an audio guide device can be rented to help you understand the storyline. Today it has largely transformed into a tourist area, yet still retains many street food vendors and handicraft shops, making it the best place to experience Hanoi's street culture.

8️⃣ Flower Street (Phan Đình Phùng) 🌸 The latest hot spot for photos! The entire street is lined with colorful flower stalls and photo backdrops, perfect for a stroll, taking photos to check in, and experiencing the local vibe.

9️⃣ Temple of Literature / Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám One of Hanoi's most iconic historical sites, built in 1070, it was Vietnam's first national academy and a place for worshipping Confucius. The complex is divided into five courtyards, with architecture that feels ancient and elegant and an atmosphere that is solemn and serene, making it the best place to understand Vietnamese Confucian culture. 🇻🇳 Vietnam's National Day Ceremony and Military Parade (September 2025 Experience) This time was especially unforgettable. The streets of Hanoi were completely closed off and covered with national flags, and the square was already packed with crowds by three in the morning. I held on until six thirty in the morning, watching the opening of the military parade through a big screen, followed by a grand military march and aerial display. The atmosphere on the scene was intense and solemn, which also made me feel more deeply the Vietnamese people's love and pride for their country.

If you don't like hot weather or humid environments, it's recommended to avoid traveling during this time.
