Whether this is your first visit to Indonesia or you're planning a short trip as part of the New Southbound journey, this article will help you get started with ease! ✈️ Jakarta e-Visa (e-VOA) Application Guide Travelers to Indonesia can now apply for an electronic visa (e-VOA) online, which allows multiple entries and is valid for 60 days — perfect for short independent trips and business travelers. ✅ We recommend applying 5–7 days in advance to avoid delays 📍 Official website: molina.imigrasi.go.id 📝 Required documents: Passport file (valid for 6 months or more) Color headshot file (white background) Credit card payment 💡 Quick reminder: You'll receive your visa PDF within about 1 hour after payment. Remember to print it out or save it on your phone—you'll need to scan the barcode at the border.

📱 Internet Access & SIM Card Recommendations This time I bought an Indonesian SIM card (Telkomsel) at AIR SIM. It could be activated right away using the airport Wi-Fi, and the signal was great in the city. 🔹 Recommended choices: Indosat, Telkomsel, XL Axiata 🔹 Price range: NT$200–300 (depending on days and data) 🔹 Hotspot sharing: Please confirm before purchase whether it's supported If you haven't prepared it in advance, you can also buy it at the arrivals hall of Jakarta Airport, but it's recommended to buy it more cheaply at an Alfamart / Indomaret convenience store in the city. 🚖 Ways to Get Around Jakarta City Getting around the city relies almost entirely on the following two methods: 1. Calling a ride with the Grab / Gojek App Jakarta doesn't have a well-developed mass transit system, so the most recommended option is to download Grab (similar to Uber) — the pricing is transparent and it's safe. GrabCar: Suitable for groups of 2–4 people traveling together GrabBike: cheap and fast, but you'll need to get used to the local heavy motorbike traffic. 💡 Tip: It's best to call a ride outside your hotel or a tourist attraction, rather than flagging one down on the street. 2. Taxis outside hotels Besides Grab, there are also taxis outside hotels, or dedicated cars arranged by the hotel itself. The price isn't always the most economical, but it can reduce language barriers and communication hassles, making it suitable for first-time travelers. 💰 Currency exchange tips and things to note The currency used in Indonesia is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR), with an exchange rate of approximately: 1 TWD ≒ 500 IDR (as of 2025) 🔹 Recommended Exchange Locations: Jakarta City (for example, inside Plaza Indonesia mall) Money exchange shops with clear signage, air conditioning, and clear receipts Airport exchange rates are usually worse 💡 Important Notes: Never exchange money at roadside private money changers—there's a high chance of getting counterfeit notes or being shortchanged! It's recommended to exchange for 50,000 and 100,000 denomination notes, which are convenient for making change and clean 🛂 Jakarta Airport Entry and Exit Reminders After arriving at the airport, use the dedicated e-visa passenger lane for much faster processing.If you don't have an e-visa, you'll need to queue up to apply for a visa on arrival, so it's recommended to arrange it in advance. After collecting your luggage, scan the QR code to make your declaration; this will be checked before you exit customs. 🧳 After exiting customs, there are currency exchange counters and SIM card vendors, but the prices tend to be on the high side. You can also arrange hotel airport pickup, where a staff member will be there to greet you right as you exit customs.

🔒 A little reminder about safety and culture Although Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia, its public safety is relatively good — but you should still keep the following in mind: Keep your valuables separated or store them in the hotel safe For backpacks, it's recommended to use an anti-theft bag or wear it in front Avoid being alone late at night around market areas 🎯 As for clothing, it's best to dress conservatively and lightly — locals mostly wear long pants and covered tops — and please also respect the local Islamic cultural atmosphere. If you plan to enter a mosque, you must follow Islamic dress and behavior requirements.
