Vietnam price information — fixed-point observation — 20250614 Fixed-point observation of a local market: the herb/condiment stall and the soup-ingredient stall
At a local market in Ho Chi Minh City

Green onions (about one handful, 220g) = 10,000 VND ≈ 55 JPY Okra (about 15 pieces, 230g) = 10,000 VND ≈ 55 JPY Fresh pepper (500g) = 75,000 VND ≈ 415 JPY My husband's love for natto with okra has become a regular thing, making breakfast much easier. If you set it in the fermenter (though some prep is required), you can make homemade natto. Vietnamese okra is crunchy with a tough outer skin, so it holds up well in the fridge. And you can buy plenty of green onions for just 10,000 VND. Freshly harvested with mud is great, but lately, I've been choosing pre-cleaned green onions. And at a shop run by a very kind lady. Today, I got a lot... over 200g, so I'll chop them up plenty and enjoy them in abundance. For okra, there are shops where you pick them yourself, and others where they are pre-packaged like this. Usually, I prefer picking smaller okra, but today, I went for the big batch! Okra can be found in the vegetable section, but also in spice/condiment shops. I often see them bundled with rubber bands and standing upright in shops specializing in green onions, bean sprouts, ginger, and chili. As for fresh pepper, a friend arrived in Ho Chi Minh City this morning. I'm preparing it to give as a souvenir, salted. As far as I know, only a limited number of shops sell fresh pepper, and for some reason, the shops that have it also sell tofu. Local markets are still cheap~ and so lively. So much excitement!
