2025.07.03 At a local market in Ho Chi Minh City Wonton wrappers, about 50 sheets = 8,000 VND = around 45 yen Gyoza and wontons are the kind of home cooking you just want to make. They're easy, and making a big batch is so much fun~~ But finding the wrappers at supermarkets in Vietnam is one of those things that seems possible but isn't. The hurdle is a bit high. I could just go to a Nikkei wholesale supermarket, though. Well, I'd like to get them cheap, and if the ingredients are available here~~~ you know? So, glancing around the market, this is what I found. Eateries use them in pho and mi with wontons. I found them at a stall specializing in noodles, at a market where wholesale buyers come to shop. Squares about 5 centimeters, with roughly 50 sheets making up one set, I think. (Sold by weight.) Is the yellow from egg? From turmeric? I'm not really sure... but it's probably wheat flour (maybe Mì Hoành thánh). They have a faint taste of mì, so I suspect the noodles are probably made from the same ingredients. Well, they're cheap, so that makes me happy.

This time, I pounded the chicken and added shiitake mushrooms and green onions to make the filling. The wrapper is soft, but it's easy to handle.

You can boil it and enjoy it with ponzu and mustard... It has a smooth, slippery yet soft and fluffy texture. Or use it as wontons in a soup made with dashi broth, tofu, and lots of vegetables.

Gentle on the stomach. I couldn't finish it all, so I stocked some away. I was worried it might stick together~, but when I stored it lined with plastic wrap, it was fine for 3 days. I ate it all up deliciously. Relocation Life Ranking
