The quiet love song of the sea on a sunless day

Translated from Vietnamese
The quiet love song of the sea on a sunless day

One day, I came to the sea of Da Nang not to seek the brilliance of golden sunshine, not to immerse myself in the sparkling blue water, nor to join in the lively laughter of the crowds flocking there in summer. I came to the sea on a late autumn day, when the sky was draped in a soft, cool layer of silvery-gray clouds, and everything seemed to slow down into an incredibly peaceful rhythm.

No more hurried car horns or boisterous cheering, the long stretch of sand now lies vast, open, and solitary. The lifeguard huts stand silently against the wind, while rows of coconut palms with drooping fronds sway with every wave of cold air sweeping in. The sea at this moment no longer wears its proud jade-green gown, but has changed into a deep, dark blue, mysterious and full of contemplation. The sky and the sea seem to merge into one, weaving an infinite expanse where every boundary fades away.

Pulling my collar up high to block the cold winds sweeping in from the open sea, carrying their pure, salty taste, I walked slowly along the soft, fine sand. Today the waves are not gentle and caressing; they beat against the sandy shore more rapidly and with a louder murmur, as if wanting to pour out all the whispers of the deep ocean. But strangely enough, however loud the waves may be and however strong the wind may blow, the heart of the person standing before them does not stir in the slightest. On the contrary, each wave that rushes up and then recedes is like a soft broom, quietly sweeping away the sorrows and scratches in one's heart.

Taking a deep breath of the fresh air with a slight chill to it, I suddenly felt my chest become light as a feather. It turns out the sea isn't only beautiful when there's a brilliant sunset or a radiant sunrise. Even when it falls silent, when it hides behind veils of gray clouds, the sea still has its own special way of comforting us. It is unconditional tolerance, a space vast enough for us to dare to face the loneliest hidden corners of our souls.

If today you are carrying a heavy head or a heart full of unspoken thoughts, try standing before the sea, just once, on a sunless day. Let the wind tousle your hair, let the sound of the waves drown out your tangled thoughts, and let all your worries drift away with the dissolving sea foam...
