6 AM flight: How should I get to Da Nang airport to make it less of a hassle?

Da Nang Airport is located right in the heart of the city — it's one of the few international airports where it only takes 10-15 minutes from downtown. It sounds convenient, but that very convenience often makes people complacent, and many end up almost missing their flights.

Four ways to go, and the real weakness of each one:

You can flag down taxis along the street. It's fastest if you're in the central area. But around 4-5 am taxis are quite sparse, and in the An Thuong area or near the beach, there are days when you stand for fifteen minutes without seeing a single one.

2. Ride-hailing. Transparent pricing, but it also depends on whether drivers are online. Early morning trips often get cancelled — and if it's cancelled at 4 a.m., there's no time to scramble for another way.

3. Shared van / shuttle pickup (reserved in advance). Cheaper than a private car since you share the seats with other passengers. In exchange, the vehicle drives around to pick up more people, so you need to add some buffer time. Good for solo travelers with light, compact luggage.

4. Pre-booked private car. More expensive, but arrives exactly at your scheduled time, picks you up right at the hotel entrance, and the driver will wait if you're a few minutes late. If there are 3 or more people traveling or lots of luggage, splitting the cost per person is actually cheaper than taking two ride-sharing cars.

A few things you should know:

• Leave earlier than you think. The road to the airport is short, but during the 7–8 AM and 5–6 PM time slots, the intersection near the airport tends to get quite crowded. • Book your ride the night before if your flight is before 7 AM. This takes two minutes and completely eliminates the risk. • Confirm the all-inclusive price when booking — clearly ask whether the airport transfer fee is already included.
