Hue Imperial Citadel — 400 Years of Heritage, Just 2 Hours from Da Nang

Hue Imperial Citadel is a world cultural heritage complex recognized by UNESCO in 1993, located about 100km north of Da Nang. It only takes 2 hours driving through the Hai Van Tunnel or taking the SE train, and travelers can already admire the massive royal architectural complex built under the Nguyen Dynasty since 1805. The Citadel, Imperial City and Forbidden Purple City area spans more than 500 hectares, comprising hundreds of temples and palaces adorned with exquisite wood carvings, ceramics, and decorative patterns.
A highlight not to be missed is Ngo Mon — the majestic main gate with five entrances, Thai Hoa Palace where the court's important ceremonies were held, and Cuu Dinh — nine giant bronze urns cast during the reign of Emperor Minh Mang. The entrance ticket is 200,000 VND for domestic visitors, open from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. It's best to go early in the morning to avoid the harsh sun and have enough time for a full visit. A day trip from Da Nang is completely doable, and you'll even have time to visit Dong Ba Market and enjoy authentic Hue-style beef noodle soup in the afternoon.
