Itinerary Overview Today we joined a day trip to the suburbs of Athens arranged by the travel agency, delving into two great UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Byzantine-style "Hosios Loukas Monastery" and "Delphi," the sacred site of Greek mythology. Although we didn't check in until nearly two in the morning last night due to a flight delay, we still got up early to set off on this cultural exploration journey full of history and myth. 📍Today's route: Departure from downtown Athens → Hosios Loukas Monastery → Lunch in the mountain town of Arachova → Delphi archaeological site and museum → Return to Athens Early morning departure: the struggle to get up begins the journey Last night's flight delay meant I didn't fall asleep until 2 a.m., yet this morning I still had to pull myself together to face today's cultural exploration. At nine o'clock our guide Kai Kai showed up punctually at our apartment — he's Turkish, once lived in Taiwan for two years, and speaks fluent, wonderfully friendly Chinese. Monastery of Hosios Loukas: A Byzantine World on the Hillside ✅ World Heritage Site｜Listed by UNESCO, it has stood since 1990 alongside Nea Moni and Daphni as a classic representative of Byzantine architecture. ✅ Byzantine architectural features: Built from a mix of stone, brick, and marble, with interiors decorated with golden mosaic icons, presenting a striking contrast between a plain exterior and a magnificent interior. 🔸 Main Monastery Building: Built in the 10th century AD, to commemorate the Greek hermit Saint Loukas.

🔸 Saint's Tomb Chamber: Believers hold that resting alongside the saint can bring divine blessing, and Orthodox Christians still come today to worship.

Arahova Lunch: A Brief Stop for Simple Meal in a Mountain Town After leaving the monastery, we came to Arahova to enjoy a simple lunch. This mountain town is located below the Parnassus mountain range and is known for traditional handcrafted textiles, local cheese, and ski resorts.

Delphi Archaeological Site: The Center of the World and the Place of the Oracle ✅ World Heritage Site | Delphi was already an important religious center in the 8th century BC, and in Greek mythology it was regarded as "the center of the world." 💡 Origin of the legend: Zeus released two eagles from the two ends of the world, and where they finally met marked the location of the "Navel of the World (Omphalos)." 🔸 The Sacred Way: Starting from the bathing place at the foot of the mountain and heading upward, pilgrims had to bathe and purify themselves, bring offerings, and pray to the priestess for an oracle

Return Journey and Practical Information Sharing 🚐 The return trip took approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes. The travel agency had previously reminded us that overtime on the chartered vehicle would incur penalties. Fortunately, our guide Kaikai successfully coordinated beforehand, and we smoothly returned to Athens at 6:50 PM. 🔸 Travel Tips: • We recommend wearing comfortable sports shoes, as the ruins require climbing many steps • Booking a guide can enrich the explanatory content, otherwise information is rather limited. Shopping at Athens Supermarkets and Evening Activities In the evening, we did a big shopping at the supermarket recommended by our tour guide Kaka, preparing meals and snacks for the next three days, spending around TWD 1,800, and the prices were much more affordable than we expected. After returning to the apartment, we cooked dinner, did laundry, and packed our luggage. Staying in an apartment-style accommodation gave the trip more of a life feeling and made long-duration travel no longer tiring.
