[Turkey Independent Travel Day 9] Marmaris Vacation Day: Mediterranean Vibes and Harbor Exploration

Trip Overview Today is our last day in Turkey. We'll depart from Pamukkale and head to Marmaris, a resort city by the Mediterranean Sea. This is a favorite summer getaway for European travelers, with streets full of yachts and beach bars, presenting a completely different side of Turkey. After formally saying goodbye to our guide Ran in the morning, we began a slow exploration of this seaside city, while also making final preparations for tomorrow's trip to Greece. 📍Today's route: Depart from Pamukkale → Marmaris → Beach walk and castle photo shoot → Marina exploration → Evening drinks at a music bar A warm farewell, heading to a Mediterranean resort town In the morning, Ran-sheng and the driver came to pick us up. Ran-sheng even thoughtfully prepared a small gift as a farewell keepsake, which made us feel truly warmed. After arriving at the bus station, we formally said goodbye to Ran-sheng — these five days had flown by, and it was hard to part. Next, our chartered driver continued to take us to Marmaris, a journey of about three hours, arriving at noon at today's hotel.The hotel had already prepared three rooms for us, so we left our luggage there and set out for an afternoon stroll to explore.

▲Taking a photo with the driver after arriving in Marmaris Strolling through downtown Marmaris: the charm of beaches and the harbor It takes about 30 minutes to walk from the hotel to Marmaris Castle, so we simply took a leisurely stroll along the beach instead, letting the sea breeze wash over us as we watched European tourists sunbathing all along the sand, feeling a completely different holiday vibe. This place is utterly different from the inland Turkish towns we experienced in the past few days — it's a seaside paradise designed entirely for tourists. The harbor was packed with oddly shaped yachts, many of them offering one-day island tour itineraries. The little alley near the castle was quiet and serene, forming a striking contrast with the lively seaside, making you feel as if you'd stepped into a small Mediterranean town. 🎫 Tickets for Marmaris Castle cost about 6 euros, but we chose not to go in, and just took photos and admired it from the outside.

▲Market next to the castle district, Marmaris Grand Bazaar Exploring the Port: Tomorrow's Boat Schedule Confirmation and Tales of Getting Lost To take a boat to Greece the next day, I proactively went to the port to confirm the boarding location. Although I used a ticket booking app to check the meeting point, Google Map kept directing me in the wrong direction, so I had to ask a travel agency for help in the end. Under the guidance of the travel agency, I took a taxi to the correct location. The driver's price was quite high, but to save energy, I had to grit my teeth and accept it (charged 800 lira for a single trip, but only 250 lira for the same route the next day...). After arriving at the port, I needed to pass through an entrance with a passport checkpoint, and behind it was the shipping company's ticket booth. After confirming the boarding information with the on-site staff, I finally put down the stone in my heart.

In the evening, I headed out to the seaside to experience another side of Marmaris: with music and lights intertwined, every bar puts on its own show to draw in customers. In the end I chose a bar with a performance group made up of three girls — a lead singer, a violinist, and a DJ — and paired with a bottle of local beer, EFES, I spent my last night in Turkey just like that.

▲Live Performance Bar Marmaris Souvenir Recommendations 📦 Although Marmaris itself is mainly a vacation destination, you can still find quite a few local souvenirs here that are worth taking home: Raki: A traditional Turkish spirit with a distinctive anise aroma. The most famous brand is TEKIRDAĞ — it's recommended to buy a small bottle to try it out.

Olive oil soap: commonly found in markets and supermarkets. The local brand DALAN offers excellent quality with vintage-style packaging, making it a wonderful gift choice.

Turkish Delight (Lokum): Not only sold at markets, but also available at major supermarkets in Marmaris. We recommend choosing pistachio or rose flavor. Marmaris Accommodation & Restaurant Recommendations 🏨Restaurant Recommendations: If you plan to stay one night in Marmaris, it's recommended to choose accommodation within walking distance of the seaside, close to downtown and the harbor, so you can easily enjoy the nighttime atmosphere and catch a boat to Rhodes the next day. Recommended accommodation: House Of Marmaris Affordable prices, complete facilities About a 15-minute walk from the beach, there are convenience stores and several restaurants nearby. We arrived early at noon that day, and three rooms were already available for early check-in. If you have a larger budget, you could also consider choosing a seaside hotel near the port, such as Yacht Marina Hotel, which is closer to the ship boarding point. 🍽 Restaurant Recommendations: There are many restaurants in the Marmaris city center area near the sea, with seafood dishes, grilled meat platters, and local beer most recommended: Taj Mahal: Indian cuisine, very authentic, delicious. Yunus Cafe Bar: Located right by the beach, the atmosphere is fantastic at sunset, and it specializes in Mediterranean cuisine Drink recommendation: The local EFES beer, cool and smooth, pairs perfectly with the sea breeze for a real vacation vibe! 🚢 Ferry information for traveling from Marmaris to Rhodes, Greece If your itinerary includes "crossing the sea from Turkey to Greece," Marmaris is one of the most popular ferry ports. Here's a compilation of practical ferry information: 📍 Boarding location: The ferry departs from Marmaris Cruise Port. After passing through the security checkpoint, you will find the ferry company's ticket counter. Please remember to bring your passport, as identity checks will be conducted on site. Google Maps positioning can sometimes be inaccurate, so we suggest visiting the boarding location in person a day in advance to confirm (we ourselves were once led astray by the navigation). 🕒 Boarding Time & Recommendations: Ferries depart daily at approximately 9:15, with a voyage of about 1 hour. We recommend arriving at the port at least one hour before departure to complete check-in and ticketing procedures. We are traveling with Yesil Marmaris Lines this time. We recommend booking through the official website or travel app. Trip Summary and Thoughts Today is our last night in Turkey, transitioning from historical culture to a leisurely harbor—as if a buffer and summary of our journey. We are also grateful to our tour guide Ran Sheng for his professionalism and companionship over the past few days, which allowed us to not only see the sights but also gain a deeper understanding of this land.
