[Turkey Free Trip Day 9] Marmaris Vacation Day: Mediterranean Vibes and Harbor Exploration

Itinerary Overview Today is our last day in Turkey. We will depart from Pamukkale and head to Marmaris, a resort city on the Mediterranean coast. This is a favorite summer getaway for European travelers, with streets full of yachts and beach bars, showing a completely different side of Turkey. After formally saying goodbye to our guide Ran in the morning, we began a leisurely exploration of this coastal city, while also making final preparations for tomorrow's trip to Greece. 📍Today's route: Departure from Pamukkale → Marmaris → Beach walk and castle photo shoot → Harbor exploration → Evening drinks at a music bar A warm farewell, heading to a Mediterranean resort town In the morning, Ran Sheng and the driver came to pick us up. Ran Sheng even thoughtfully prepared a small gift as a farewell keepsake, making us feel truly touched. When we reached the bus station, we formally said goodbye to Ran Sheng — these five days flew by, and it was hard to part ways. Next, our chartered driver continued to take us to Marmaris, a journey of about three hours, arriving at today's hotel around noon.Three rooms at the hotel had already been tidied up in advance, so we dropped off our luggage first and set off to explore on an afternoon stroll.

▲Photo with the driver after arriving in Marmaris Strolling around downtown Marmaris: the vibe of beaches and harbors Walking from the hotel to Marmaris Castle takes about 30 minutes, so we decided to take a leisurely stroll along the beach instead, letting the sea breeze wash over us as we watched the European tourists soaking up the sun on the sand—a completely different holiday atmosphere. This place is a world apart from the inland Turkish towns we'd experienced in the previous days; it's a seaside paradise built entirely for tourists. The harbor was packed with quirky-shaped yachts, many of which offer one-day island tour trips. The alley near the castle was quiet and peaceful, forming a striking contrast with the lively seaside, making you feel as if you'd stepped into a small Mediterranean town.

There's a mall in the city, and many travel agencies also offer travel packages.

Although I used the ticket-booking app to check the meeting point, Google Maps kept leading me in the wrong direction, so in the end I had no choice but to ask a travel agency for help. Following the travel agency's directions, I took a taxi to the correct location. The driver quoted a rather high fare, but to save my energy I gritted my teeth and accepted it (I was charged 800 lira for the one-way trip, whereas the next day the same route only cost 250 lira...). After arriving at the pier, I had to pass through an entrance with a passport checkpoint, behind which was the ferry company's ticket booth. Only after confirming the boarding details with the staff on site could I finally set my mind at ease.

At night, I stepped out along the seaside to experience another side of Marmaris: with music and lights intertwining, every bar puts on its own performance to draw in customers. In the end, I chose a bar with a performance group made up of three girls — one lead singer, one violinist, and one DJ — and paired with a bottle of the local beer EFES, I spent my last night in Turkey just like that.

▲ Live show bar Marmaris souvenir recommendations 📦 Although Marmaris itself is mainly a resort destination, you can still find quite a few local souvenirs here that are worth bringing home: Raki: A traditional Turkish spirit with a distinctive anise aroma. The most famous brand is TEKIRDAĞ — it's recommended to buy a small bottle first to try it out.

Olive oil soap: commonly found in markets and supermarkets, the local brand DALAN offers excellent quality with vintage-style packaging, making it a perfect gift.

Turkish delight (Lokum): Not only available at markets, but also found in major supermarkets throughout Marmaris — we recommend picking up the pistachio or rose flavored varieties. Marmaris Accommodation and Restaurant Recommendations 🏨 Restaurant Recommendations: If you're planning to stay one night in Marmaris, we recommend choosing accommodation within walking distance of the beach, close to the city center and the harbor, so you can enjoy the evening atmosphere and easily catch a boat to Rhodes the next day. Recommended accommodation: House Of Marmaris Affordable prices, fully equipped facilities About a 15-minute walk from the beach, with convenience stores and several restaurants nearby. We arrived early that day around noon, and three rooms were already ready for early check-in. If your budget allows for more, you could also consider a sea-view hotel near the harbor, such as the Yacht Marina Hotel, which is closer to the boat boarding point. 🍽 Restaurant recommendations: There are many restaurants along the seaside area of downtown Marmaris, with seafood dishes, mixed grill platters, and local beer being the most recommended: Taj Mahal: Indian cuisine, very authentic and delicious. Yunus Cafe Bar: Located right by the beach, the atmosphere is fantastic at sunset, and it specializes in Mediterranean cuisine. Drink recommendation: The local EFES beer — cool and smooth, pairing perfectly with the sea breeze for a real vacation vibe! 🚢 Ferry information from Marmaris to Rhodes, Greece If your itinerary includes "crossing the sea from Turkey to Greece," Marmaris is one of the most popular ferry ports. Here's a handy summary of practical boarding information: 📍 Boarding location: The departure point is Marmaris Cruise Port. After passing through the security checkpoint, you'll find the cruise company's ticket counter. Please remember to bring your passport, as identity verification will be checked on site. Google Maps location can sometimes be inaccurate, so we recommend visiting the boarding location in person a day early to confirm (we've personally been misled by navigation before). 🕒 Boarding Time & Recommendations: The ship departs daily at approximately 9:15 AM, with a voyage of about 1 hour. We recommend arriving at the pier at least one hour before departure to complete check-in and ticketing procedures. For this trip, we sailed with Yesil Marmaris Lines — we recommend booking through their official website or a travel app. Trip Summary and Reflections Tonight is our last evening in Turkey, moving from historic culture to a leisurely harbor, as if it were a gentle buffer and summary for the whole journey. We're also grateful to our guide, Ran-sheng, for his professionalism and companionship these past few days, which let us not just see the sights, but truly get to know this land.
