Souvenirs from Da Nang — what should you buy, what should you avoid?

What to buy: small marble statues from Non Nuoc village (300,000–1,000,000 VND depending on size) — this is a thousand-year-old craft of Da Nang, and nowhere else in Vietnam works marble like this village does. Marble feng shui bracelets can be bought right at the foot of Marble Mountains.

What to buy: authentic Nam Ô fish sauce – you must purchase it directly from Nam Ô village (Lien Chieu District), and look for the traditional 3-star seal. While you can also find it at Han Market, there are many counterfeit varieties mixed in, which are difficult to distinguish. Village prices range from 100,000–200,000 dong per liter.

Avoid buying: T-shirts printed with "Da Nang" sold at Han Market (200,000 VND) — the fabric quality is poor and it loses its shape after just 2 wears. Plastic "Dragon Bridge" keychains (30,000 VND) — made of Chinese plastic and don't represent anything meaningful. The conical hat is too large (200,000₫) — cannot be carried onto the plane. The oil painting "Hoi An Lanterns" (500,000–2,000,000₫) — 90% is digital print, not hand-painted as advertised.
