Some restaurants in Da Nang have been selling longer than the age of many people standing in line

There's a type of shop in Da Nang that looks like nothing from the outside: a faded sign, a few low tables, a pot of broth set right at the entrance. But ask anyone who lives here and they all know its name, and many of these shops have been open since before the An Thuong area had foreign visitors.

Bún chả cá Nguyễn Chí Thanh is a name that's often mentioned — the restaurant has been operating for over forty years, long enough to have become a familiar meeting point for an entire neighborhood. Bún chả cá Bà Phiến has also been around for more than thirty years. Bánh canh ruộng Cô Hồng has been going for about twenty-nine years.

The name "bánh canh ruộng" (rice noodle soup of the field) sounds strange to guests, but it accurately describes what actually happened: back in the day, the bánh canh vendor carts in Đà Nẵng often sat near rice fields, so people named the dish after where the vendors sat.

Bún chả cá Bà Lữ is another case — the main location is at 319 Hùng Vương, and later a second spot opened at 17 Nam Trân. The price is mentioned as being around 20–25 thousand per bowl, meaning it's remained almost unchanged compared to the general market level for many years.

What these places have in common isn't the food — you can find bún chả cá (fish cake noodle soup) or bánh canh (thick rice noodle soup) anywhere. What they have in common is that they sell exactly one thing, for decades, without change. No added menu, no rapid branch expansion, no tweaking the recipe to suit tourists' tastes.

If you want to eat what Da Nang locals actually eat, places like this are where to look. Just keep in mind: long-established shops usually sell only during fixed hours and close once they run out, so showing up late means going home empty-handed.
