Marble Mountains: climb into caves, go down to Non Nuoc street to carve statues

Ngũ Hành Sơn — 'the five mountains of Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth' — is a remarkable limestone mountain complex nestled in the coastal plain, 8 km from Da Nang city center. The largest peak is Thủy Sơn, which attracts the most visitors. You can take an elevator to the summit (30,000 dong) or climb 156 stone steps.

Bên trong Thủy Sơn có hàng chục hang động lớn nhỏ, mỗi hang thờ một tượng Phật hoặc Bồ Tát. Hang Huyền Không rộng nhất, có "giếng trời" — ánh sáng mặt trời rọi thẳng từ đỉnh xuống nền hang, tạo cảm giác linh thiêng. Hang Âm Phủ tối và ẩm, nên mang đèn pin.

At the foot of the mountain lies Non Nước, a stone art village with hundreds of marble sculpture workshops. This is where large Buddha statues for temples across Vietnam are carved. You won't buy large statues (they're hard to carry), but you can purchase bracelets, beaded necklaces, and small feng shui stones for 50,000 to 500,000 Vietnamese dong.
