Trip Overview This trip actually came about because of Anne's dream — spending New Year's Eve countdown at Disney. We had already been to central Tokyo before, so this time the plan focuses mainly on the outskirts of Tokyo: Karuizawa, a kimono experience in Asakusa, and a day trip to Mt. Fuji, with the grand finale of course being the New Year's countdown and fireworks at Disney. 🗓 Itinerary: Day 1: Arrive in Tokyo → Head to Karuizawa → Soak in Hoshino hot springs Day 2: Stroll around Kumoba Pond in Karuizawa → New Year's countdown at Tokyo Disney Day 3: Asakusa Kimono Experience → Sensoji Temple → Tokyo Skytree Day 4: KKday Mt. Fuji One-Day Tour (Lake Kawaguchi, Mt. Fuji World Heritage Center, Oshino Hakkai) Day 5: Breakfast in Tokyo → Flight back to Taiwan Day 1｜Tokyo → Karuizawa: A Warm-Up Journey into the Quiet Snow Country After arriving in Tokyo, we took the NEX Narita Express and then transferred to the Shinkansen straight to Karuizawa.Lunch was just a simple station bento, but honestly, Japanese bentos always bring a little happiness — eating it, you feel like the trip has officially begun.

As soon as I stepped out of Karuizawa Station, I could feel how especially fresh the air was, and the winter atmosphere made me instinctively slow my pace. The kyu Karuizawa HOTEL where I was staying was a bit of a walk from the station—I dragged my luggage along for about 20 minutes, gradually moving from the bustling shopping streets into the quiet outskirts, as if slowly stepping into another world.

In the evening we took the shuttle bus to Hoshino Onsen, and for dinner we chose "Villager's Cafeteria" — the pork cutlet and cold noodles were both really good. After dinner we soaked in the hot spring; there weren't many people, so we could enjoy it in peace. The heat washed away the fatigue of a whole day of travel, and I thought, "Ah, this is what a vacation should feel like!

Day 2｜Half-Day Stroll Through Karuizawa × A Dreamy Disney New Year's Eve After enjoying a hearty breakfast at the hotel in the morning, we headed out to Kumoba Pond. The weather was so beautiful it was almost dazzling, with the blue sky reflected perfectly on the water's surface — winter Karuizawa was tranquil and stunning. On the way back, we bought the local area's famous pudding, and the first bite was so rich and creamy it truly took us by surprise.

But accommodation in Karuizawa is really not cheap—a three-star hotel costs almost NT$10,000 for one night, and adding in transportation costs, I secretly thought to myself, "It's beautiful, sure, but not something you absolutely have to come for." In the afternoon I went back to Tokyo, getting ready to head into Tokyo Disneyland for New Year's Eve. This is the only day of the year you can stay overnight in the park, so I was really excited to be able to join in. After arriving at Disneyland, the crowd split into two streams—one was the crowd fully enjoying Disney's magic on the last day of the year, just about to leave, and the other was the crowd who had bought special tickets, getting ready to end the year in the Fantasyland.

Naturally, the first stop after entering the park was the souvenir shop, packed with crowds. An had so much fun trying on all kinds of hats and laughed the whole time, while I was in charge of taking photos the entire way (lol).

In the evening, everyone gathered in the square waiting for the countdown. At that moment, news came that the wind was too strong and the fireworks might be canceled, and the entire scene was filled with anxiety. We sat on the ground, our hearts also unsettled.

Finally, the countdown began, and the fireworks still burst across the night sky! That moment was truly so moving — An's dream came true, and I felt that all the hard work had been worth it. Day 3｜Asakusa Kimono Experience × Tokyo Skytree Day Trip Today's highlight was the kimono experience. We booked "Asakusa Miu Kimono," where the girls needed to be dressed layer by layer by professional staff, while the guys were done in just a couple of minutes (lol).

Wearing a kimono, I walked into Sensoji Temple, strolling around while snacking on treats from the temple fair, and even drew a fortune stick to pray for blessings. Finally, I went to the riverside to gaze at the Tokyo Skytree in the distance, taking lots of memorial photos under the winter blue sky.

Honestly, by the end of the shoot I was quite tired, but looking back, walking down the old street in a kimono, whether taking selfies or being captured by passersby, every shot looked like a postcard—it was totally worth it. The shop owner even helped take a group photo of us at the end, and their professional guidance made the photos look even more natural and beautiful. I highly recommend this shop! For dinner, I had originally picked two restaurants I wanted to try (fried beef steak or pufferfish), but after a full day of activities I was just too exhausted~ so after grabbing a small snack, I decided to turn in early. Tomorrow we head out to Mount Fuji! Day 4 | Mount Fuji Day Tour: Lake Kawaguchi × World Heritage Center × Oshino Hakkai Today I joined KKday's Mount Fuji day tour, pretty much the top pick for lazy travelers: Lake Kawaguchi: First I tried matcha, then stepped outside to see the magnificent Mount Fuji—no matter how you photograph it, it's beautiful.

World Heritage Exhibition Hall: Showcases some of the history and culture of Mount Fuji. Although not large, it offers a quiet place to appreciate Mount Fuji.

Oshino Hakkai: beautiful scenery composed of clear spring waters and charming villages, but unfortunately packed with tourists.

Overall, it's convenient and hassle-free, especially for those with limited time who still want to get beautiful photos of Mt. Fuji — definitely worth a visit. Day 5 | Tokyo Breakfast Wrap-up × Return Flight With our flight leaving at noon on the last day, we checked out in the morning and headed to February Cafe for brunch, wrapping up this New Year's trip to Tokyo. Looking back, we're already quite familiar with central Tokyo, but this time exploring the suburbs — Karuizawa and Mt. Fuji — gave the trip more depth. Most importantly, the New Year's fireworks at Disney were truly a once-in-a-lifetime unforgettable moment.

Trip Summary & Thoughts This independent New Year's trip to Tokyo Disney had it all — dreamy New Year's Eve fireworks, the quiet stillness of Karuizawa, a kimono experience in Asakusa, and finally getting to see Mount Fuji with my own eyes.
