Today's itinerary is relatively relaxed. The visit to Tashilhunpo Monastery, originally planned for this morning, was already completed yesterday, so today we head back to Lhasa along the Southern Friendship Highway (rear-Tibet route). Along the way, we'll experience the daily life of Tibetans, a guided tour of Tibetan medicine culture, a stroll through Drepung Monastery, and tonight's most anticipated show — the grand outdoor theatrical performance "Princess Wencheng." On our sixth day in Tibet, we're gradually getting used to the air here and finding opportunities to blend into local life. 🗓 Today's Itinerary Leisurely breakfast in Shigatse → Renshi Service Area (encounter with everyday Tibetan life) → Lunch in Qushui → Guided Tour of the Tibetan Medicine Culture Center → A Stroll Outside Drepung Monastery → Princess Wencheng Large-Scale Live Theater Show Breakfast and Morning Light: The Most Leisurely Morning in Ü-Tsang Today the guide has arranged a 9:10 departure, so we can finally sleep in a bit and properly enjoy the hotel breakfast we missed the day before. The hotel has a great view — at 8:30 the sunlight peeks out from the edge of the city, lighting up the dry, cold blue sky unique to this region. This kind of unhurried morning is a rare moment of leisure on a Tibet journey.

Rensi Service Area: Blending into Tibetan Daily Life After about a 1.5-hour drive, we arrived at Rensi Service Area. The surrounding mountain scenery was as magnificent as ever, but the biggest surprise came from something else— A whole group of Tibetans resting on the ground. Led by a Hong Kong girl traveling with us, we joined right in and blended in with them. They even enthusiastically shared with us: Tsampa (a staple Tibetan food) Dried yak/mutton jerky Qingke barley wine Tsampa has an aroma like fragrant grain flour, while the barley wine sits somewhere between vinegar and a light wine—slightly sour, refreshing, with a bit of fizz. It was just a brief exchange, but it felt like truly stepping into the everyday life of the Tibetan people.

Lunch in Qushui: Mom's Sunflower Seed Shopping Trip We arrived in Qushui at 12:30 pm for lunch. After eating, Mom seized the free moment to dash to the supermarket next door, and bought some "sunflower seeds" to bring back to Taiwan as a souvenir. Little joys like this always sneak into a trip without you noticing. Tibetan Medicine Cultural Center: Sky Burial Tools, Medical Thangkas, and "Free" Consultations Around 3 pm we returned to the area near Lhasa, and just as my travel companion Ajuan had said — we were arranged to visit the Tibetan Medicine Cultural Center. Actually, I already had a vague sense of it yesterday at Tashilhunpo Monastery and from the way the guide set things up this morning. But overall, there was no forced buying at all, so it also counted as another kind of cultural exploration. 📌 Tour Highlights (photography strictly forbidden inside) 1. Sky Burial Instruments Exhibition The guide explained: Because of the sky burial tradition, Tibetans "grasped the concept of human surgical anatomy very early on," and recorded it using medical thangka paintings. 2. Tibetan Medicine Thangkas and Herbal Knowledge Students of Tibetan medicine learn about medicinal herbs from a young age, and must memorize over 900 kinds of Tibetan medicines before they can graduate. (As expected, doctors in every country are among the smartest people.) 3. Free consultation session The doctor assessed our health condition by examining our tongue coating and palms. Although the explanation was very professional, we felt it wasn't as uncannily accurate as the tour guide had described. The recommended treatment required taking it continuously for three months, at a cost of 6000 RMB, so our whole group politely declined. We left around four o'clock and returned to the hotel to rest.

A stroll outside Drepung Monastery: missing it again, so close yet so far. After checking in, we had some free time, so we decided to take a walk in front of Drepung Monastery. Drepung is one of the three great monasteries of Lhasa, but its opening hours are a bit unusual: 9:00–17:30, though apart from the Main Assembly Hall, all the other halls close after 15:30. Every time we come here, we're just one step too late, and today was no exception — right as we arrived at the monastery gate, the main hall had just closed. Since we couldn't get inside, we wandered around the vendor stalls outside instead: all kinds of textiles, Buddhist items, and ornaments, full of Tibetan flavor.

Tibetan Dinner: Sweet Tea, Cold Noodles, and a Drunk Uncle's Warmth For dinner, we chose a cozy little Tibetan restaurant, with warm yellow lighting and only a few seats, but it felt just like home. A slightly drunk old man kept chatting with us, saying "anyone who comes from afar is a friend," so warm and adorably enthusiastic. We ordered: Tibetan sweet tea (milk tea flavor, 3 RMB a cup) Cold noodles Hot and sour noodles Other Tibetan snacks The bill for four of us came to 43 RMB — cheap and satisfying.

Princess Wencheng Live Theater Show: A Spectacular Performance Worth Every Penny We paid out of pocket to attend tonight's large-scale live theater performance of "Princess Wencheng": Show ticket: 300 RMB Shuttle transfer: 40 RMB Show start time: 20:30 We arrived near the venue at 20:00, where there are many creative/cultural shops, and you can even see the Potala Palace in the distance.

22:15 After the show ended, we wandered around the cultural and creative shops, then took the shuttle bus back to the hotel. Tomorrow is the final part of the trip — the sacred Lake Namtso. Summary: From the majesty of nature back to the everyday rhythm of Tibet Today didn't have the awe-inspiring scenery like Everest, but it made this Tibet journey feel more complete.
