First Impressions of Norway: A Paradise of Storms, Northern Lights, and Seafood Norway is the most challenging yet surprising country on this Nordic journey. We hired a car from Inari, Finland, and drove to Kirkenes, from where we boarded a coastal cruise heading straight to the heart of the Arctic Circle—Tromsø. Along the way, we not only enjoyed the aurora over the sea, but also got caught in a blizzard in Tromsø that shut down roads and halted trains, forcing us to stay put for two days. This experience gave us a deep appreciation for how unpredictable winter travel in Norway can be, and it also sharpened our ability to improvise while traveling independently. But thanks to this unexpected layover, we made a surprising discovery: seafood in Norway is the cheapest among the four countries. Whether at restaurants or supermarkets, the brown cheese, canned mackerel, and caviar were all absolutely amazing. In terms of urban traffic, cars are extremely polite and always yield to pedestrians on their own initiative; the city's road surfaces are largely treated with geothermal heating, so that even during heavy snowfall some sections remain dry and passable, demonstrating the city's mature adaptation to polar living. Note: Tromsø → Stockholm Flight: SAS Airlines, recommend downloading the SAS App in advance to check flight status. Weather Reminder Blizzards are common along the Norwegian coast in winter (like the storm we encountered this time). Even if the city center is clear, mountain areas or highways may still be closed. It's recommended to prepare a Plan B in advance (such as changing flights or booking extra accommodation). 4. Food and Accommodation Experience Sharing Food Experience Dragøy Seafood Market Restaurant (Tromsø): Highly recommend the cold salmon & Arctic shrimp platter, mixed seafood pot, and fish soup. Given Norway's high prices, this offers excellent value for money.

Must-buy items at Tromsø supermarkets: brown cheese (TINE), canned mackerel, Mills caviar, and Arctic salmon — prices are much lower than in the other three countries, so I recommend stocking up a lot here. Accommodation experience 📍Tromsø Apartment (Airbnb): The location is a bit far from the city center, and the room is cramped, but it has all the basic amenities.

📍Tromsø Temporary Accommodation (In the heart of city): A large spacious apartment with temporary booking, featuring ample space and multiple rooms but without kitchen facilities.

5. Small Reminders and Practical Information Aurora Tracking Suggestions: The area around Tromsø is excellent for observation. If the weather is clear, you can take the cable car up the mountain to observe, or walk along the lake area to enter areas without light pollution. City Transportation: Most locations are accessible on foot, and some can be accessed by bus. The single-trip fare is 48 NOK, which can be paid using the Tromsø Taxi App or in cash on-site. Aurora Forecast App: Recommended: Aurora, My Aurora Forecast combined with Windy to check cloud cover Weather changes fast: even a sunny day can suddenly turn to snow, so it's recommended to carry waterproof gear and snow boots with you all day.
