🇻🇳 If you're going to eat chicken, this is definitely the place!
It hasn't even been a year since the shop opened, yet how many birds have we been served? I'm so happy to have found truly delicious chicken dishes that I just have to share. Chicken in Vietnam is delicious. Since charcoal-grilling is the default here, Japanese-style yakitori shops are hugely popular, but... In Ho Chi Minh City, there's a restaurant that uses charcoal in a slightly different way to cook. We happened to be passing by when something just clicked—ping!—and my husband and I wandered right in. The kind staff welcomed us and said, "It'll take about 30 minutes or so, is that okay?" So we waited patiently... and then a whole chicken was brought out, standing upright. (You can also have it cut up into pieces.)

At first I was just plain shocked, but once I took a bite—oh my~~~ What IS this?! Along with the surprise, it was the best. Personally, I even think it might be the best of my entire life. Anyway, the crispy skin and juicy, tender meat are truly moving. In other words, at this whole-roasted-chicken place, you go completely silent, just like when you're eating crab. It's so delicious that you devour the meat. You become utterly absorbed in the work of tearing the meat apart. Clear, beautiful fat dripping from the chicken tail. The super-crispy chicken skin—our whole family raves that it's even better than Peking duck. While going "hot, hot!" and holding it with a plastic bag, you pull the meat apart, and again the fat goes sizzle~. If you place steamed glutinous rice right there, you get delicious whole-chicken-fat rice. The other day, I savored it together with my Vietnamese friend. My husband was thrilled by the spectacular table setting too.

Even the Vietnamese girls who are used to chicken raved about how delicious it was. Saying "It's so hot, it's so hot," we get down to the work of carving it up.

When I asked around, they told me — with full confidence — that this chicken was free-ranged and raised in Đồng Nai Province, so it's totally different from the ones you'd find at just any ordinary market. And sure enough, even though it was grilled, the breast was plump and firm (it's got a pigeon-breast!), and the muscular thigh meat bulged out nice and tight — I could hardly stop gazing at it. What's more, the admirable thing about this shop is that there's only one item on the menu: whole charcoal-grilled chicken (comes with cucumber, leaves, and steamed rice). (To be more precise, they also have stir-fried spiced offal, and chicken feet too.)

【🇻🇳 Ho Chi Minh City — Cost of Living Info】 Whole chicken grilled over charcoal (set with vegetables and sticky rice) — 230,000 VND ≈ about 1,400 yen (as of January 2026) *From April 2026 — 280,000 VND (it went up by about 300 yen~ but still cheap!) As for beer, they have German beer (no Tiger, no Saigon)... that's it. Way too cheap~ and way too delicious~~~ A close young couple, the two of us polished off one whole chicken in a flash — we just couldn't stop!

[Important Notes] The table seats are desks set up on the sidewalk. They are not inside the building. Grilling takes time AND ingredients often sell out, so reservations are a must.
