On the morning of the last day... We went to eat seopguk (mackerel soup), which the ones needing a hangover cure had really wanted to try, but the wait there turned out to be much longer than expected. Since it was near our lodging, we went in feeling relaxed and unhurried, but it made us think that maybe we should have done an opening run (lined up right when it opened) for this place lolใ…‹ใ…‹ใ…‹ใ…‹

What is Seopguk~ It's a soup dish made with fresh natural mussels, seasoned to be slightly spicy, and it's a traditional local dish of the Sokcho, Goseong, and Yangyang regions.

We were seventh in line, and I think we waited about thirty minutes. Since I prefer clear jiri-tang over the red spicy broth, I wanted to order fresh saengdaegu-tang (cod stew), but it was only available for two or more servings, so we ended up all ordering seopguk instead...

It wasn't as spicy or salty as I expected โ€” a fairly mild flavor. That might just be how this restaurant makes it, though. Since I haven't tried it anywhere else, I can't really compare it. Hehe. For the bigger mussels, they cut them into smaller halves for us. It had potatoes, mushrooms, and chives in it. I mostly ate the solid ingredients ^^ If I go to Sokcho again, I'd be willing to eat it again once more ^^ It wasn't too strong/spicy for me so it was fine.. but Lotto-nim who went with me seemed like it was a bit lacking for their taste ^^ since they really love a spicy, rich broth lol
