Introducing Hoi An cuisine♪ I wonder which one is the most delicious?

Translated from Japanese

Hoi An has three dishes that every traveler absolutely must try: "Cao Lau," "Fried Wontons," and "White Rose.

If it's a restaurant in Hoi An Ancient Town, almost every place had it!

Also, every restaurant offered a course set of three dishes, so we recommend ordering that. The appearance varies slightly from shop to shop, and some places have their own unique seasoning, so instead of visiting just one restaurant, try stopping by one more and comparing the flavors.

This is cao lầu. It's known for its chewy rice flour noodles. I tried it at two restaurants: at the first one, there was hardly any broth, and it was topped with pork. At the second one, there was a bit more broth, and it was topped with duck.

This is White Rose. It's similar to Chinese wontons. You eat it by dipping it in diluted nuoc mam. It was light and delicious. Even a woman can easily finish a whole plate, so for a man, this alone probably wouldn't be enough.

Last up is the fried wonton. It's a dish that makes you wonder, "Did they fry the White Rose dough?" With its crispy texture, you can eat it like a snack, so it's also a great pick for kids.

On top of the dough are a tomato-based sauce and toppings of chopped onions and green peppers. Some people might not be fond of this, I suppose. Most shops seem to use tomato sauce, but the toppings appear to vary. As you can see, the shop where I ate also added plenty of cilantro.

It's not exactly a Hoi An specialty, but one dish I just can't skip is "fried spring rolls." They're my absolute favorite♪

By the way, if you want to try Hoi An's local specialties, the restaurant I'd recommend is "SAKURA".

It's a famous restaurant that even a former Prime Minister of Japan has visited, but the prices are surprisingly reasonable. You can enjoy dishes for under 1,000 yen each, and if you manage to get a riverside seat, the view is spectacular too♪
