The hotel breakfast was actually quite generous, but it only opened at 7:30 and we had to gather by 8:00, so I could only hastily grab a plate of hot food, gulp down my first cup of Tibetan butter tea, and rush downstairs with my luggage.

From here, the elevation begins to climb steadily, and our guide reminded us to turn on our oxygen tanks in advance, so that a sudden ascent wouldn't cause any discomfort.

Gyamula Pass at 5248m: Snow Mountains Strike the Heart at First Glance After lunch, we arrived at Gyamula Pass at an elevation of 5248 meters. The instant I stopped the car, I couldn't wait to step out. The snow-covered mountain ranges unfolded before my eyes, so breathtakingly magnificent that it naturally stirred a profound sense of awe and reverence in my heart. The roadside was filled with vibrant multicolored prayer flags dancing gracefully in the wind. I specially offered the khata that our guide had given me on the very first day, hoping our journey ahead would be smooth and blessed.

After leaving the Gyatso La (Jiacuo La) Pass, you'll arrive at the Qomolangma (Mount Everest) National Nature Reserve. This is where we "say hello to Everest for the first time.

Arriving at Mount Everest National Park: Officially Stepping into the Roof of the World About another hour's drive and we arrive at the entrance of Mount Everest National Park. First, let's take a symbolic commemorative photo—this marks the beginning of our journey toward the roof of the world.

Next comes the classic "Nine Bends and Eighteen Turns." The winding mountain road looks like a white ribbon, curling upward again and again among the peaks — the higher the altitude, the more magnificent the scenery becomes. Gyawu La Pass (Everest Viewpoint): five world-class giant peaks lined up in a row Today the weather was unbelievably good. Standing at the viewpoint, the five peaks stood in a perfectly neat line: Makalu (world's 5th highest) Lhotse (world's 4th highest) Mount Everest (world's 1st highest) Cho Oyu (world's 6th highest) Shishapangma Everest rose like a perfect pyramid right in the center, so majestic it made everyone fall silent in an instant. Watching the winding road we had just climbed unfold beneath our feet, in that moment I suddenly understood: It turns out that simply "seeing" it was already stunning enough.

Transfer Station: Switching to a Shuttle Bus for the Final Ascent After reluctantly leaving the viewing platform, it takes about an hour going downhill to reach the transfer station. Since vehicle access to Everest Base Camp is restricted, we need to switch to an official shuttle bus to continue up the mountain. The fees are as follows (actual cost subject to the day): Entrance ticket: 160 RMB Transportation ticket: 120 RMB The shuttle bus is usually packed full, with everyone clutching their own oxygen tanks, jackets, or supplies. Arrived at Everest Base Camp (Luxury Tents) — Surprisingly Comfortable! Finally arrived at Everest Base Camp before evening. Around 19:20, the glow illuminates Mount Everest—— The setting sun tints the peak of Mount Everest, and the entire mountain glows golden. That kind of awe is so overwhelming that even your breathing slows down.

At 19:40, the sun had completely set, and the nearby mountain peaks turned a soft shade of purple, as if nature itself were blending colors.

This scene is a once-in-a-lifetime stroke of luck. There's a stone monument at the viewing platform — when we first arrived, many people were lining up to take photos, but after the sunset glow lit up Mount Everest, the crowds dispersed, and it became easy to take a commemorative photo at ease.

Night at Everest Base Camp: instant noodles, yogurt, and a sky full of stars Dinner was simple but special: instant noodles prepared the night before, plus yogurt treated by our guide. Everyone gathered in the lounge, chatting and warming up together, like a small family for a brief moment.

We agreed to shoot the starry sky at midnight. I rested until 23:40, then got ready and headed out again, facing the -10°C cold. We walked towards the observation deck, trying to avoid the light sources from the campsite, and at that moment looked up. The sky was covered in stars from edge to edge, and the Milky Way was so clear it looked like a white ribbon painted across the sky.

I borrowed my travel companion's tripod and captured my favorite photo of tonight: Mount Everest × starry sky × the tranquility of the plateau.

After taking several group photos, it was nearly dawn by the time we finally returned to the tent to rest.

Conclusion: Mount Everest's magnificence is remembered by both body and soul simultaneously. In 2024, when gazing upon Annapurna Peak in Nepal, I experienced the awe of high mountains for the first time. But today, seeing four of the world's top ten peaks standing shoulder to shoulder at the Everest viewing platform—that overwhelming sensation is on a completely different level.
