The hotel breakfast was actually quite lavish, but it didn't open until 7:30, and we had to assemble by 8:00, so I could only hastily grab a plate of hot food, gulp down my first cup of Tibetan butter tea, and then rush downstairs with my luggage.

Our large luggage must be stored at the hotel, and we can only bring backpacks and bags, because we'll need to switch to small buses to enter the Everest Base Camp area, as the original vehicle cannot go up the mountain. 💡 Reminder Traveling to Everest Base Camp requires "traveling light": Must bring — warm jacket, gloves, medicine, oxygen bottle, thermos, instant noodles Can skip — unnecessary changes of clothes, large suitcases Route 318 Service Area: Officially embarking on the high-altitude challenge It takes about 1.5 hours of driving to reach the Route 318 Service Area. Jia Cuo La Pass 5248m: The First Glimpse of the Snow Mountains Takes Your Breath Away After our meal, we arrived at Jia Cuo La Pass, at an elevation of 5248m. As soon as the car stopped, I couldn't wait to get out, and there before my eyes unfolded a range of snow-capped mountains — so magnificent that I couldn't help but feel a surge of awe. Along the roadside, countless colorful prayer flags fluttered in the wind. I made a point of offering the khata scarf the tour guide had given me on the first day, hoping the rest of the journey would go smoothly.

After leaving Khardung La Pass, we entered the Mount Everest National Nature Reserve. This is where we 'greet Mount Everest for the first time'.

Arriving at Mount Everest National Park: Officially Setting Foot on the Roof of the World After about another hour's drive, we arrived at the entrance to Mount Everest National Park. Let's take a symbolic commemorative photo first — this is the starting point of our journey toward the roof of the world.

Next comes the classic "18 Bends Road." The winding mountain road looks like a white ribbon, stretching upward loop after loop through the mountains — the higher the altitude, the more magnificent the scenery. After reluctantly leaving the viewing platform, it takes about an hour going downhill to reach the transfer station. Because access to Everest Base Camp is restricted to vehicles, we had to switch to an official minibus to continue up the mountain. Trekking 20 Minutes to Mount Everest Viewpoint: The Sunset Light Takes Your Breath Away After a brief rest, we carried our small oxygen bottles and walked towards the higher viewpoint, taking about 20 minutes. Along the way, we passed through a tourist rest station that was packed with travelers taking a break.

When we arrived at the viewing platform, it was already packed with people, all waiting for that final ray of light. Mount Everest — so magnificent, it fills you with awe. I may not get the chance to climb it in this lifetime, but this encounter was enough.

Around 19:20, the light bathes Mount Everest— The sunset tints the summit of Mount Everest, and the entire mountain transforms into gold. That kind of awe is so breathtaking that even your breathing slows down.

At 19:40, the sun had completely set, and the mountain peaks nearby took on a faint shade of purple, as if nature were mixing its own colors.

This scene is a once-in-a-lifetime stroke of luck. There's a stone monument at the viewing platform. When we first arrived, many people were lining up to take photos, but after the sunset glow lit up Mount Everest, the crowds dispersed, and at that moment it was easy to take a relaxed commemorative photo.

Night at Mount Everest Base Camp: Instant Noodles, Yogurt, and a Sky Full of Stars Dinner was simple yet special: instant noodles we'd prepared the night before, plus yogurt our guide generously treated us to. Everyone huddled in the hall chatting and keeping warm together, like a temporary little family.

We had arranged to photograph the starry sky at midnight. I rested until 23:40, then got ready once more and headed out, braving the -10°C cold. We made our way toward the viewing platform, trying to avoid the lights from the campground, and gazed up at the sky.
