[Namtso One-Day Tour] Walking along the shore of the holy lake, encountering an unexpected snowstorm, and finally ending on the warmest note with a yak hotpot

The Tibet trip is drawing to a close, and today's focus is just one thing — Namtso, one of the three great sacred lakes. The guide smilingly reminded us early this morning: "Today's round trip is 500 kilometers, about 10 hours of driving, but it's worth it." It turns out that the longer and harder the journey, the more you can feel the reason why the sacred lake is so breathtaking. 🗓 Today's Itinerary Depart from Lhasa (08:00) → Rest stop midway (fabric vendor stalls) → Lunch in Damxung County → Namtso Sacred Lake (shuttle bus in and out) → Stop for snow scenery at Nagenla Pass → Back to Lhasa to enjoy yak hotpot → Accommodation The first leg: 500 kilometers, all for a glimpse of the sacred lake We set off right on time at 8 a.m., under bright, crisp weather. About two hours later, we arrived at a rest stop, surrounded by vendors selling textiles and small souvenirs, adding a touch of everyday life to the plateau valley.

Not long after departure, the tour guide asked everyone whether they'd like to have lunch earlier or later. Since it was too cold inside the bus, everyone unanimously agreed on "eating early" — So we arrived at a restaurant in Damxung County (Dangxiong) around 11 o'clock. Compared to the previous days' set meals, this restaurant's food was fairly ordinary, but the piping hot dishes felt especially warming in the cold wind. Heading Toward the Sacred Lake: Outside the Window Looked Like the Arctic After lunch, we continued heading north. The scenery outside the window began to turn pale, resembling the polar landscape of Iceland — Vast ice fields, dry cold air, and desolate, unobstructed grandeur.

After about 40 minutes, we will arrive at the Namtso parking area, then transfer to the scenic area's shuttle bus to head to the lakeside, in order to reduce human pollution.

After another 30 minutes, we finally arrived at the legendary sacred lake. Namtso: The "Heavenly Lake" as vast as the sea The first glimpse alone left us stunned. It was so vast it seemed to have no shoreline, and so blue it looked like an icy blue diluted with milk. The weather wasn't great and the sunlight wasn't strong, but the low-saturation lake water instead gave off a pure sense of "pale blue solitude." The drop-off point is about a 10-minute walk from the lakeshore. Along the way you can see many horses offering paid rides for photos. We didn't stop, and headed straight toward the lake.

A little surprise by the lake: The shore is actually a fine sandy beach, making you feel as if you've arrived at the seaside. Just like Yamdrok Lake, this place also gathers many black-headed gulls. Yaks sit quietly by the lake, perfect for taking photos.

We took out the toast we had prepared and fed the birds, seagulls circling and swooping through the air—becoming one of the most vivid scenes of this whole journey.

A little exchange with a Tibetan local: simple and sincere. While walking along the lakeside, I saw a little lamb lying on the ground. An old man who seemed to be its owner was nearby, so I asked if I could pet it, and he smiled and agreed. He joked, "I could sell it to you too, only 200 yuan each!" Then he laughed again and said, "But I guess you probably can't take it home to your hometown, right?" We took out chocolate and cookies to share with him, and he happily sang out, "We're all good friends~" That simplicity and sincerity is the most unforgettable part of traveling.

A moment to honor faith: offering the final khata We walked up to the stone tablet inscribed with "Respect the faith, please do not enter the lake," upon which lay many pure white khatas. Gently, I placed the last khata of this journey upon it. In that moment, my heart felt at peace— grateful that this journey had been fulfilling and safe, and that I had seen every view I had wished to see.

We slowly walked back, unconsciously looking back at the holy lake again and again. I don't know if Tibet's future will preserve this simplicity and purity, but I hope it will!

接駁車繞湖：不同角度的聖湖 接駁車會先沿湖畔繞一段路再抵達換乘區。 團上的香港女生分享，她騎馬到 7 號站，那邊有更多打卡裝置， 再搭遊園車返回。 繞湖完成後，司機會催促沒有位子的乘客下車，因為要求出場這段路程一定要有座位。 天氣劇變：回程遇上「凍雨變雪」 回到大巴時我們赫然發現——居然開始下雪了！ 明明氣象預報寫「凍雨」， 沒想到在回程途中雪越下越大。 導遊特別在 那根拉山口 停車， 讓大家拍下這場突如其來的高原雪景。 對我們而言，這是一場「臨別前的驚喜」。

Back to Lhasa: Yak Hot Pot, Warming Both Heart and Stomach We got back to the hotel around 7pm. Everyone unanimously decided to head to Tibet Encounter Yak Hot Pot, recommended by our tour guide. It's right near where we had dinner on the first night, and just like before, you can see the Potala Palace and enjoy a Tibetan dance performance. But this time, with no worries about altitude sickness at all, we could relax and enjoy it so much more. We ordered the 2-3 person set meal plus vegetables, which came to about 230 RMB total, less than 60 RMB per person — such a great deal.

Night Walk: Buying Local Specialties After returning to the hotel, we went to a nearby supermarket to buy some Tibetan specialty products to take home. Tomorrow is free time, and we'll bring this trip to its most culturally rich close at the Tibet Museum. Summary: From the vivid blue of Yamdrok Lake, to the tranquil blue of Namtso, and finally a farewell in the snow Yamdrok Yumtso brings a vivid, dancing blue; While Namtso seeps slowly into the heart with its vast, quiet blue— The two sacred lakes feel like entirely different chapters, together completing the colors of this Tibet journey. On the first day, we ate hotpot beside the Potala Palace with a sense of unease, worrying about altitude sickness, worrying about not being able to adjust; on the last night, it was hotpot again, but the mood was completely different — that sense of relaxation and warmth seemed to be telling the traveler: "You have truly entered Tibet, and truly bid it farewell too." And when that unexpected snow fell at Gangbala Pass, it was like the heavens placing the final page over the journey, letting blessings settle on our shoulders while slowly pushing the trip toward its end.
