Sinla Monogram Da Nang Lantern Making Class ✂️

This is a hands-on class where you make your own traditional Hoi An lantern, the iconic symbol of the city. It takes place at the Activity Studio inside the Shilla Monogram Danang, and costs about 300,000 VND (roughly 16,000 KRW depending on the current exchange rate). You'll craft a traditional Vietnamese-style Hoi An lantern by hand, and you can take your finished creation home as a souvenir.

It takes about an hour, and I got to make a lantern myself — a symbol of Hoi An famous enough to have its own lantern festival. Doing it by hand was harder than I expected, and it really took a lot of effort. First, you pick six colorful pieces of fabric from those laid out on the table, then attach them one by one to the lantern frame, and that step turned out to be trickier than I thought.

After carefully gluing everything piece by piece, you need to be careful when trimming and cutting the fabric, since you shouldn't cut the threads attached to the frame. I accidentally cut one thread by mistake haha, but the teacher who was helping me comforted me and said it was okay, so I felt relieved and kept working hard on it ^^

After making it myself, I remembered paying money to take a photo at the entrance of the Hoi An night market, and I thought, "Ah, if it takes this much effort to make, that makes sense." You might feel the participation fee is a bit pricey, but the lantern you make can be folded up like an umbrella to take home, so it's great both as an experience and as a souvenir. I made mine, packed it carefully in my suitcase, and brought it home to hang up in my shop ^^

Classes are conducted in English, but the teaching staff who help out can communicate a little in Korean, so it wasn't difficult to follow along. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to spend special time with their child while traveling!
