Renting a motorbike by the month in Da Nang: how booking works and what to bring
A month of Grab rides adds up fast, and in a city built around two wheels you’ll want your own anyway. Renting long-term in Da Nang is straightforward — the part people get wrong is the paperwork, and that’s the part that costs you at the roadside.
Here’s how it works on vietSpots and what to have ready.
How the booking works
You set a pickup and return date — the exact hour is agreed at the shop — and the listing shows how many bikes are free for that range. The minimum is one day, same-day return included, so for a long stay you simply book the whole stretch and ask the shop about a rate for the period.
Then you pick the actual bike. You can filter by engine size and brand, and the catalogue splits into automatic (tay ga), semi-automatic (côn tay bán tự động), manual (côn tay) and electric. Each bike shows its model year and how many people it seats. One honest detail the platform states up front: the colour and year of the bike you receive may differ from the photo.
Payment is on collection at the shop — nothing upfront, no surcharge outside the shop, and free cancellation any time before you pick the bike up. The deposit is either a fixed amount shown on the listing or agreed at the counter. Once you send the request you get a booking code, and confirmation usually comes back within a few minutes.
What you need to bring
This is the part worth reading twice. A licence is required and it’s checked when the bike is handed over — bring the original, not a photo.
🪪 If you’re a foreigner — an International Driving Permit (class A) together with the motorbike licence from your own country. 🪪 If you’re Vietnamese — your A1 motorbike licence. 📷 One photo of your ID during booking: passport or international driving licence for foreigners, driving licence or CCCD (citizen ID card) for Vietnamese. It’s encrypted in transit and deleted automatically once you return the bike.
Confirm for yourself that your own licence and permit are valid for riding in Vietnam before you travel — the shop checks documents, but whether yours is accepted on the road is a question for the authorities, not the rental counter.
Before you ride off
🔧 Damage is on you — the platform states plainly that the renter covers the full repair cost if the bike is damaged. Photograph the bike from every angle at pickup, scratches included. 🪖 Wear the helmet — the fine for riding without one is listed as 400,000–600,000₫. Ask for a size that actually fits; you can note it in the request box when booking. 📍 Where you return it — the default is the same place you collected it. Some shops allow a different drop-off point, but it varies by branch, so confirm before you book. 🌧️ It’s rainy season — ask whether a rain poncho comes with the bike, and check your building has covered parking. 💬 Use the request box — it takes free text, so say what you need: three bikes for three people, an XL helmet, whatever applies.
