Avocado smoothie + Jackfruit smoothie: the two kings of Da Nang smoothies on a hot day

Da Nang has more than 200 smoothie shops all over the city. But the two most popular flavors are avocado and jackfruit. The avocado smoothie uses rich, creamy Da Lat avocado — blended with condensed milk, shaved ice, and a bit of coconut milk. The taste: thick and creamy like ice cream, lightly sweet, and refreshingly cool.

This jackfruit smoothie uses Cho Con jackfruit (the sweet, fiber-free Thai jackfruit variety). It's blended with condensed milk and crushed ice. The taste is richly sweet, fragrant with jackfruit, and thick/full-bodied. Coconut jelly, basil seeds, or a bit of coconut cream are often added as toppings to make it even richer.

The price is 20-30k VND/cup at sidewalk stalls, and 35-50k VND at cafés. Good areas to try: Hung Vuong Street, Nguyen Chi Thanh Street (many shops over 20 years old), and the ground floor of Con Market. It tastes best from 2-5 PM when the sun is at its strongest.
