6｜Hoi An Ancient Town (Quang Nam Province) City of Lanterns Year Inscribed: 1999 Highlights: A well-preserved trading port town from the 15th–19th centuries, its architecture blending Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese and French influences. Travel Experience: The lantern-lit streets at night are incredibly romantic — my favorite thing is to sit by the riverside with a cup of coffee and watch visitors release floating lanterns on the water. 7｜My Son Sanctuary (Quang Nam Province) The sacred land of the Champa Kingdom Year inscribed: 1999 Highlights: This cluster of red brick temples was the religious center of the ancient Champa Kingdom, often called "the little Angkor Wat." Travel experience: We visited in the afternoon. At that time we hadn't yet been to Angkor Wat, so we were still quite unfamiliar with Champa architecture. Although some of the ruins were destroyed by war, they were still deeply impressive. 8｜Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park and Hin Nam No National Park Currently the largest cave in the world Year inscribed: 2003 (extended in 2015 and 2025) Highlights: Home to the oldest karst landscape in Asia and the world's largest cave, "Son Doong Cave." In 2025, it was further linked across the border with Laos's Hin Nam No National Park. Travel experience: I have walked through Phong Nha Cave and Paradise Cave — under the illuminated lights, it felt like stepping into an underground palace.
