Chez Madame Thao — a cup of tea that melts away the heat, a bowl of pho that captivates the heart

I went to Chez Madame Thao in Da Nang.

The store was larger than I expected. The interior, kept nice and cool with air conditioning, has a second floor, so there are plenty of tables, and there's also a separate outdoor seating area. I thought that on a cool day, eating outside would have a nice, atmospheric feel. Indoors on hot days, outdoors on breezy days — just having that choice already earns extra points.

I heard VietSpots had a 10% Gold-tier discount, so I made a reservation through the app and visited.

As soon as I sat down, a cool cup of tea was brought out first. These days there are so many places that even charge you for water, so having a cup of tea handed to me with a bright smile really took the edge off the heat. It won me over from the very first impression.

Since I was hungry, I ordered everything I wanted to eat (no regrets, haha).

To be honest, bun cha wasn't really my thing. It was often so sweet or salty that it ruined the taste of the other food. But this place's bun cha is different. It wasn't overpowering, yet had a deep, rich flavor that made me think, "Wait, is this what bun cha was actually supposed to taste like?

Jjamuk (fried fish cake) is the textbook example of crispy outside, tender inside. The outside is crunchy and the inside is soft and juicy, so the texture alone is enough to finish a whole plate. It was the kind of taste that makes you crave a beer!!

The boko (beef stew) had a twist too. Other places tend to have a thick, soup-like feel, but here the broth is clear and includes radish, giving it a refreshing taste. The baguette served alongside is crispy on the outside and moist on the inside — when soaked in the broth, it disappears at a frightening speed.

Morning glory and spring rolls are just the standard combo, so of course we ordered them together and enjoyed them a lot haha

I ordered so much food, and seeing the bill surprised me all over again. Isn't it just unfair how affordable it was too? Plus, I smartly grabbed a 10% discount with my VietSpots Gold tier!! Hehe
